Movies that changed your life. Is it cringe/reddit to think that media can change your life in some sort of meaningful way? I honestly feel like Trainspotting did that for me. I was an addict (I guess you're always an addict even when you stop), spinning my wheels, hating my life. Never went to jail or killed a baby or anything, but yeah I pushed a lot of people away. Anyway, movies that changed your life, if you think it's actually possible.

I mean, that's the point. When you're young you just want to get away from your crappy life and bad friends. When you're older, you romanticize those times, even if they were actually horrible. Both are dangerous. Choosing life means different things as you age.

Never related to or admired movie characters aside from leon. Only time i've seen a character and thought that it's someone i'd want to be like.

I probably wouldn't have started working out when I did if I didn't watch movies. No specific movie comes to mind when saying "I should start working out", and it really isn't strictly media but certainly it's at least 1/1000th of the reason

Godzilla Minus One changed my life
Ever since graduating University in very stressful and traumatizing circumstances I did nothing, didn't look for work and basically spent all my time reading about covid, then the russian invasion of Ukraine, etc and watching films/television
I remember really liking the episode of DS9 with Vic Fontaine
Anyway that continued for a while but at that point I was already have 2-3 nightmares a week about University and work which caused me an immense amount of stress
It just kept building up and eventually I found it difficult to sleep because I'd have bouts of anxiety attacks about how fucked up my life was and every night I had stress nightmares
Then one day I decided to watch Godzilla Minus One and the film was great but one part of the plot really upset me
I hated how in the film, despite failing as a Kamikaze pilot, having his comrades eaten by Godzilla and then returning home to a Japan that was completely destroyed, the protagonist doesn't just give up and wallow in misery but instead works hard to rebuild his life and within a year he's rebuilt a home with the money he earns from his job
Specifically the fact that he does it all in one year is what made me offended and I considered turning it off but I decided to keep on going
Two weeks later I was applying for jobs and now I work a dead end job with 15-20 hours only but I no longer have nightmares and I can sleep easily because I work late shifts

If anything i actually more admired the solitary nature he has. But the bond they had was really nice none the less.

The actual movie is sans-pedoshit, in spite of what the director wanting to french it out.

In a way it almost makes me like the movie more. From what i read it was leon's actor that more or less told him to fuck off.

I was actually referring to how most people really do turn out to be complete losers in middle age, no matter how much of a "choose life" epiphany they had in their 20s. The nostalgia and looking back with rose tinted glasses is just a symptom of that. One of the most honest films/sequels ever made tbqf.

The silver lining is even in middle age, just as long as you keep yourself in decent shape, you'll still be able to bang slav chicks in their 20s, even if you're still a big ol' loser

Do you think Jean Reno and Natalie still keep in touch, get together for lunch and hug it out over making it out of that film without letting the director use them as his perv proxy?

Couldn't agree more. That's why so many people disliked it, it gave them the truth, rather than some glossed up modern retread of the original film. Both Simon and Mark are right when they criticize each other at the bridge. Anyway, good analysis. I think being a loser is better in your 20's because you only have up to go if you play your cards right.
