Amusing fakeout. It's a non-sinister tradition of the island. They put those masks on training dummies when teaching children to use bows then wear the masks afterwards as a kind of joke, one with an arrow through the forehead. It's the kind of thing you can see maybe having the potential to eventually become imbued with religious importance. These people are able to just live naturally in a way that is conducive to the birth and growth of new traditions and culture rather than memes and levelling. It's positive cult stuff. I haven't seen anybody mention it yet but 'The Wicker Man' is obviously a big influence on this film.

This is one of those things where if you stop to think about it for two seconds everything breaks down. Just enjoy the film otherwise.

Like, they could do fishing easily enough, especially if they get ahold of trawler vessels and build a pier. That would detract from the idiotic causeway plot device though.

Then you need to ask yourself how did the guy get ahold of quality morphine despite it being 28 years after the hospitals shut down and it apparently losing its potency after only a few months. Overall the film does have a strong format of storytelling, but the longer it goes on the more it's obviously coming apart at the seams.
