Were boomers really impressed with this bullshit? How did they not just immediately start laughing or walking out? That whole business was a scam to begin with.
Writers sit at a desk or on a couch just like you do, sipping coffee, half-thinking. Then they write that shit down and sell it, the result is what you see in movies like GGR. Novelists however...
>>212110689 (OP)This is the sort of character used car salesmen imagine themselves as before selling an overpriced shitbox to methed out single mother on the most insane financing plan you've ever seen in your life
muh expensive watch
so pathetic
>>212111547I don't have to listen to this.
>>212111547*shoots you and gets away with it*
>>212111734>>212111755That was a pretty severe escalation, anon.
I don't think any of the salesmen in the room were 'impressed' with the speech from what I remember, more like scared to call him out, the guy was obviously talking a load of shit because they knew they were being given garbage to sell, and yeah the business was a scam.
>>212110689 (OP)boomers are really really really stupid
>>212110689 (OP)>boomersThat's a silent gen movie.
>>212110689 (OP)That was my problem with the movie when it released. These men don't have the necessary sissy energy to sit there and take this nonsense. I would have been rolling at "I MADE 870 THOUSAND DOLLARS LAST YEAR"
>>212112428>>212113460So stupid they created the hell world we are currently in, where WW3 has literally been stopped repeatedly by virtue of Donald Trump not having shares in Lockheed martin
THIRD PRIZE IS YOU'RE FIRED
The easy "critique of capitalism" is that "second prize is a set of steak knives" because that's how little it costs to motivate you to work harder for them, and if that doesn't work there's always "third prize is you're fired." But the real wisdom which is not about capitalism but which is about narcissism comes from understanding that first prize isn't a Cadillac Eldorado, you think Alec Baldwin needs a car? There is no first prize. Real closers don't want the prize, they want to be the best, that's why they will practice practice practice and don't play the lottery. The car is a temptation only for people who do not know their own value, the value of their own work, who won't lift a finger to advance themselves, who are motivated only by threats or by rewards, who would rather have the appearance of success than actual success. "I got an article in the Times!" celebrates the person whose brain is broken. "Alec Baldwin's character is a raging narcissist!" Jesus are you stupid, Alec's name is MacGuffin, that's why he's in Act I and never again yet propels the story forward. It is irrelevant whether Alec Baldwin has metal testicles or pathological grandiosity, what matters is that after years of C minus work, what finally gets those dummies fired up is First Prize or Third Prize, left to themselves they meander in mediocrity while deluding themselves that they are more than what they do. "I was number one in '87!" So was Alf. And the system knows this, which is why it lets Wampole call herself a professor but pays her like a TA----- and she's upset at hipsters. Is that ironic?
>>212112428smartest generation of all time. literally. zoomers are by far the dumbest, and laziest. and its not even close
>>212110689 (OP)The movie should be retitled to Nothing Happens And Everyone Is Shitty
>>212110689 (OP)The speech is a humiliation ritual for the salesmen who are forced to listen to this lecture from a corporate asshole from the head office or lose their jobs. Its not supposed to be a good speech its supposed to be condescending and disrespectful.
It always irritated me that in the movie it was never made very clear what the title of Glengarry Glenross really meant other than the one mention to the Glengarry leads being the good leads and they're being given shitty land to sell instead. I assume in the play it was more obvious.
>>212113943its not very dark, just depraved. saw it on broadway the other day and people were laughing at every single line
>>212116622With other undertones. He's "too good" to be there, probably pissed at whoever makes him do it. He knows the leads are shit and he overdoes his performance because he knows he has no leg to stand on. He knows he would be right there with them in other circumstances, that scares him. He imagines himself back here, that scares him. (he steals the leads) He has an "ass-kicker" reputation to maintain. He is angry his reputation will falter when these losers don't improve. All this infuriates him to the point where he lashes out at anything, like the coffee pot, or a breezy attitude.
>>212110689 (OP)>Were boomers really impressed with this bullshit? What speech do you propose for zoomers? Serious replies only
