why did we stop casting children in movies?

Short answer: we didn't stop casting children in movies. There are children in movies.
Long answer: we stopped casting children in movies because there are so many restrictions placed on shooting when children are present. For instance, a recent example, Danny Boyle didn't realise that you can't have children on set where naked people are present, so he had to have prosthetic genitals made for all the infected characters in any scene which featured children so that they only APPEARED to be naked. As such there are now NO CHILDREN in ANY MOVIES.

i can only speak for my specific studio, but the accounting department kept flagging my purchases for child sized casting couches. i told them, where the hell are they supposed to sit? on my lap? that didn't go over too well either.
