The whole movie went off a cliff after the timeskip. The two kids dealing with the monkey was a much more fun movie than Theo James collecting a paycheck. Plus, it added to and enhanced the movie's whimsical nature.

I didn't really mind it in any of the other adaptations because the kids were insufferable anyway but the kid playing young Hal/Bill was so good and believable as two twins that it really soured me on the film when they timeskipped. Oz Perkins is a hack director anyway. All he can do is the most fucking generic horror crap imagineable. He actually tried something different and enjoyable here but shat the bed anyway.
