Fan theories about the Bone Temple were so much better than the reveal, like people who were saying it might be some death cult or even the infected themselves building it. But no, I guess it's Ralph Fiennes doing it all on his own with no help and no real trouble from the infected. Sure, why not.

It's stupid as hell and ruins what could've been some excellent world-building but no, just give it a simple, nonsensical explanation.

You people are stupid. How do you think stacked stone fences happen irl? Some zombies build 'em? A cult? Slaves?
No, bored men who need to demarcate their property and find something to do after daily chores are done.

I don't get it, Days wasn't bad but Weeks was complete garbage, and somehow everyone walked into this one with mile high expectations? It wasn't that bad, you just expected way more than this series has ever offered.

How about the comically retarded idea thay Great Britain would remain abandoned for 25-28 years? It's impressive how little sense that makes. It's complete mindless slop. These sick humans are the least threatening monster in all of fiction and easily die just from exposure, thirst, and normal disease. As before, they'd all be dead in a few months and certainly from just sending a few troops with sniper rifles and a tall tower.

I dont think people expected another 28 Weeks, it was easy to look at the teaser for 28 Years and get the impression that it was going to be a very different film. Its more that people were disappointed that the film didn't really live up to the hype of its initial trailer, or even the RAGELeaks viral marketing site.
What also screwed the film over, arguably just as much as Garland's script, was the fact that it was announced as the start of a trilogy. And when the last thing you see is JIMMY and his ragtag group of zombie killers, it's going to be an uphill battle to get people to stick around. They really should have condensed the best ideas to just one film, maybe two at most.

The general idea, at least as far as Boyle and Garland are concerned is that it still happened. But they arent concerned about wrapping up any loose ends in terms of characters, or even explaining what happened to the infected on continent Europe beyond a vague "they drove the virus back to the UK". Frankly I wonder if they just forgot about it while they were working on Years and just gave the vague answer we have now.
Weeks being canon would frankly explain why the infected evolved "mentally" at least, considering there was one very smart stalker infected there. Maybe the virus coming from the carrier made it have less of an impact on the victim's survival instincts beyond only knowing how to tardrage, who the hell knows.

>>212128076
The only way it would make sense is that EU/USA scientists are baffled that the infected haven't died out over the course of nearly 30 years, and they have enough connection to some people in charge to prevent a complete and total firebombing of the UK to see how far it goes. Because it would make sense to not to nuke the UK out of fear of the blast contaminating the surrounding waters or to farm resources.

It also felt ridiculous that the kid hears that there's a doctor who is insane and thinks the doctor is some fucking magician who can cure anything and is willing to risk his and his moms life going to him.
I mean for fucks sake, the kid couldn't land a fucking shot on any of the moving infected, why does he suddenly have the confidence that he can protect his mom?

>Assign shifts of helicopters to just hover in different areas, and when the infected are drawn to the noise, pick them off with snipers because you're untouchable in the air and the infected are too stupid to know they can't get you
>Send in helicopters to different areas and make a shitload of noise while dropping poisoned food. We know the infected have to eat, and they'll gobble down poisoned food and die

To be fair, they showed that the area the doctor is in has a strong flowing river around it, which he set up a rope bridge to help himself cross. So the implication is that the flowing water prevents most infected from reaching him.
What doesn't make sense is how he's all "everyone is meant to die" with his life philosophy, but then spares the alpha numerous times. I guess you could read into it and say he's lonely and likes watching him/considers it a friend because he's crazy, but that just means he somehow has an unlimited supply of morphine that he's just wasting whenever the alpha gets too close.

Honestly they should have just said he harvests some kind of hallucinagenic plant/berry instead of medical grade morphine.

The boat plan is a quarantine you retard, it's mostly passive, isn't nearly as expensive as an endless war on the infected, and is less risky, and more acceptable for NATO countries that obviously have their own problems. What you're describing is a pointless military operation that doesn't need to happen because the islands are already under a quarantine.

It's obvious this is the most the West and NATO could spend their political capital on without their paranoid and angry citizens going ballistic. Like why would you personally want your tax dollars going towards a 2nd liberation of the UK? Hello retard, can you imagine what the world looks like without the UK? What NATO looks like? What global stability looks like? The world we know right now isn't very stable and there aren't even rage infected crazies running around and almost collapsing Europe. What countries do you imagine agreeing to such an operation? Why? The only country that can realistically do this would be the United States, who knows what the fuck they're up to domestically or across the planet in this film?

There is inherently risk in a multitude of ways. Actually sit down and try using your thoughts and imagination: reclamation was already tried, it failed. Why would they try it a 2nd time? What incentive does the US have to try this again? lmao half the United States was calling their own President a traitor for sending Cold War scraps to Ukraine but I'm supposed to believe the US in the 28 world is this ultra-altruistic nation where the vast majority of Americans are going "yeah! let's spend billions of dollars across the planet to save crazy island because we're the good guys or whatever!"

The world sans UK is already basically in financial ruin, London is in the top 10 major financial centers on the globe. The second the rage virus was confirmed would already tank markets globally. Who the fuck is paying for this? I'm gonna keep asking why you think anyone would agree to this.

>Yeah you're right, it's risky because what if the helicopter gets hit by a meteor or randomly breaks and we lose FIVE DUDES, oh what a tragedy.

What if the helicopter breaks down and a carrier of the virus steals it and pilots it back to the mainland and reinfects Europe? There I just had a thought for you, you're welcome. What if a bunch of rogue soldiers decide to land their helicopter at Coulport and steal some nuclear warheads to sell on the black market? People are actually paid to think about these potentialities in real life, seems likely at least one person in a position of power had these thoughts in the 28 world.

The whole setting works better if weeks not only happened but the rest of the world fell as a result, or at least most of the Western world. If everyone just carried on like normal, it would make no sense for an island community to just be left in isolation like that. First because it would likely have turned into a militarized outpost to help enforce quarantine and second because it would've been a security risk otherwise given its proximity to the main isles.

The whole movie lacked proper motivations and progressions. It felt like a serious of clips the writer wanted to make.

Why does the cold open not relate or give backstory to the characters we're suppose to care about?

Why go to the mainland to kill infected and bring home no supplies when the risk is so high? What are stakes that would warrant that?

Why take your cognitively impaired mom back to the mainland for a "doctor" you've never met when you just nearly escaped death with your capable father moments before?

Why have no emotion to your mother being euthanized when you just abandoned your father and entire life back home to help keep her alive?

Why are soldiers wearing PPE with full auto guns getting picked off whilst men with bows and arrows are making quick work of non-alpha infected?

Why have the baby scene if the child is just going to get dumped back home when it's no longer convenient for the story?

Also, the rage virus had clear parameters before. It was basically just a virus that turned people rabid. Now it's evolving them into gigantic steriod men who can be shot with 10 arrows, turning into gigantic slug-like people, etc. In the first movies, the infected would deteriorate quickly, how is it possible for humans to wonder around 28 years in a forest and survive without proper brain function?

So much of this just didn't make sense to me, from an in-universe and story telling perspective, not even accounting for the ending.

>Why have no emotion to your mother being euthanized when you just abandoned your father and entire life back home to help keep her alive?
Because Garland wanted to make some half assed memento mori point as if a kid brought up in this situation wouldn't be intimately acquainted with this fact
>Why are soldiers wearing PPE with full auto guns getting picked off whilst men with bows and arrows are making quick work of non-alpha infected?
In theory, they're more used to the infected but in practice they'd make light work of most of them. This is partially why they made the Alphas a thing. Otherwise even the bow and arrow presents would be able to seriously make a dent in the infected population after 28 years
>Why have the baby scene if the child is just going to get dumped back home when it's no longer convenient for the story?
Probably sequelbait. Some plebs are trying to make it part of a larger theme about compassion or life but it doesn't really work. You could remove it extremely easily.
>Also, the rage virus had clear parameters before...
Garland clearly played Last of Us and wanted to make some zombie classes. Also practically as I mentioned before there's no way that the infected would still be ascendent after nearly 3 decades if they remained like they did in the first film so some bollocks had to be cooked up to allow the sequel to exist

They would still keep up the quarantine but just give the survivors on the island an actual chance at fighting off and clearing out the infected. I don't see how flying over the UK and dropping off crates of weapons all over the place would take much effort at all.

Yet some idiot on here STILL pretends that it is IMPOSSIBLE to defeat the naked angry, unarmed men in the span of 30 fucking years. The delusion this movie brings with it is astonishing.

The film was great, despite its flaws. Way better than Weeks, not sure how to compare it to Days yet, as that is one of my favourite movies. Cinematography and camera work was all great and I enjoyed the worldbuilding. I love the fact that the rest of the world is still normal (having Erik make a reference to how ridiculous the name 'Alpha' sounds to a modern day Internet user was top notch). That contrast between those two worlds was one of my favourite part of Days aswell, which is another reason I didn't like Weeks. Main flaw was the Jimmy Saville cult, but maybe they'll execute it well. They're going for a sort of New Vegas Kings type thing, so I'm hoping it wont be done too sillyly.

How are the fat zombies even a thing?

An average earthworm has 0.07 calories. In order to meet even 2000 calories they would have to be eating nearly 30,000 earthworms every fucking day. That's not even considering the ridiculous amount of calories that would be spent earthworm hunting all day

The giant alpha zombies make a bit more sense since it's made clear there's a shitload of deer around, and the alpha zombies would be able to get plenty of calories/protein from them

It’s a cooler concept than the gay heterochromia carrier shit from Weeks. One theory is that maybe some of those newborns have a chance of becoming alphas. I just hope the new one shows the Savile cult are actually somewhat responsible for impregnating the infected too or some mad depraved shit. This one was definitely toned back though with its age rating etc, the opening scene was nowhere near fucked up and gory enough imo.

Considering Savile was from north England and based a lot of his depravity there, and that it’s where all of the movie is set, and all the other visual evidence, it’s pretty cut and dry. Savile was knighted by the queen and the character in weeks claims the Sir title. The jewellery, hair, tracksuits, couldn’t get more Savile. All the northern accents are exactly the same as Jimmy Saviles as well. If ur not British you wouldn’t pick up on it I suppose.
My guess is that Boyle and Garland are gonna explore how absolute deranged freaks would still exist and possibly even thrive in apocalyptic scenarios. Savile wasn’t just a pedo, he was a necrophiliac and rapist too. His victims ranged from 5-75

I think an element of how bizarre the introduction to the gang is was foreshadowed with Spikes red Power Ranger action figure he says goodbye to at the start of the film. And the tellytubbies before that. Some kinda childhood idealism and innocence thing. Boyles no stranger to showing things in an exaggerated way from certain characters perspectives too. The whole sequence at the end is fantastical with the gang doing acrobatics and fighting the infected in creative ways. Some kinda subtext I’m too lazy to fully articulate right now but it’s definitely present

Did they really have to kill the mother immediately after the diagnoses? Somehow she was confused most of the time but then conscious enough to decide that she wanted her life ending immediately. The confusion just seemed to be convenient for the plot, like when she killed the zombie in the church ruins. Speaking of, that entire scene felt like a waste of time. Hardly anything happened in the film but it still took almost 2 hours to happen. When it got to the ending scene with the Jimmy Savilles I thought we were entering the 2nd half or something. Hopefully the exploration of the depraved, sick and twisted culture of torture killing the zombies pays off in the next film but it sucks that one of the highlights of the film is a teaser for the next film.

That's fucking retarded because A. the infected have already been shown shrugging off mass trauma and still going for their victims. (Ex. the fucking tortured zombie hanging upside down with a bag over his head is still permanently hostile) And B. it adds EVEN MORE Mcguffinness into the virus itself. This thing has evolved and changed so much that now suddenly ""pain"" can suppress it?

Gleeming from the 2nd films directors previous work, and the fact that, as far as I can see from one interview with Boyle, the tone will be more inline with last scene of the 1st film. There's definitely a parallel drawn between the mother who has flashes of screeching and flailing in the beginning, constant agony, memory loss, knows she's dying and helpless to manage the symptoms, and the infected. I think it's to show that if it's acceptable to put her out of her misery, there really isn't anything wrong with continuing to hunt the infected who are in much the same boat, but that intentions ought to be considered. Hunting them for sport, killing them in self defence, and mercy killing are all very different motivations, and his mother's decision to be euthanized with the doctor's explanation that she'll die regardless is very different from his dad blustering about how fun killing is just to help him get his first kill.

At times I was aggravated by how lax the venture with his mom was, but they weren't actively looking for infected. Someone called it dreamlike and I have ti agree, it's like a dream where you keep remembering you ought to be on edge because the danger could come back anytime, but you also know the boy is going to make it, so how dangerous can it be? There's time to sit and enjoy the scenery.

At least for the north american box office, it went from 30 million opening weekend to 9 million on its second week. I'm going to assume it'll be close enough to breaking even by the end of its theatrical run, but there's tons of factors to take into account. Like how much did Sony spend on advertising, because they went all out in Europe it seems, as well as how much of Part 1's budget is shared with Part 2.
I'm not sure how much they make from streaming either, so who knows when or if Sony greenlights a third film.

Re-posting because I can't be bothered to retype for this bullshit.

I just watched it, it's complete dogshit.
>starts off trying to replicate the sheer panic and desperation of the second film's opening, but just comes across as boring and "safe"
>cuts to completely different characters doing bad Geordie accents
>go out the mainland for... nothing, they get no supplies or resources, they waste tonnes of arrows, and almost get killed for the fun of it
>pointlessly adds new "kinds" of rage infected, which undermines the simplicity of the first film where everyone just becomes a violent monster
>CG deer, literally couldn't even be bothered to go to anywhere up north with actual herds of deer
>the literal "women bonding while giving birth" moment with a fucking rage infected
>baby somehow isn't infected
>over-use of the whole "tearing their head off" thing, with the skull and spine motif, but it's not original or particularly shocking, just screams campy
>excessive infected nudity
>crazy doctor covered in iodine somehow surviving for years out in the open surrounded by infected, with no obvious signs of supplies
>the deranged pointless mum character they were setting up as some Manchurian candidate after she killed the zombie and forgot, turns out she's just got cancer and dies
>an absolutely insane ending of a bunch of Jimmy Saville impersonators doing some of the cheesiest backflipping combat I've ever seen outside of a comedy
Why is it that all these directors that return to do sequels to their lightning-in-a-bottle films years later all end up as hacks?

Great, you liked it, good for you, if you want to claim it's actually a good film you need to do better than that, the other guy just gave a laundry list as to why it isn't, if you can't argue against said points either concede or shut the fuck up, because saying "well I liked it" doesn't mean shit to anyone but you, faggot. As it stands it's probably one of the most poorly written and disjointed piece of film I've seen since The Rise of Skywalker.

This is LITERALLY the point. It's a coming of age ritual to prove the masculine prowess of the men on the island, Jaime forces his son to go early for his OWN ego and nearly gets him killed in the process. That it was stupid and pointless is the explicit point being made by the film and that it escaped you is just demonstration that you are stupid and not capable of engaging with what is actually happening in the movie

Coming of age rituals usually involve lads being sent out alone, not being constantly protected and backed up by their dad. Not to mention that they'd done the zombie killing in the woods with the crawlers really quick, it was done. There was no need for it to continue. It was badly written to have scenes that had no point in the narrative. There's no defence for that by saying "hurr durr the characters were intentionally stupid". Intentionally stupid people wouldn't survive that long, write it better to fit the context.

So that's one failed refutation down, want to try with the others?

Wow, remember when the dad lies about his son's accomplishments for this very reason, that it's all performative and for clout in the village?

Not that anon, but everything you're talking about is fine, the second that infected lady gives birth the entire movies goes off the fucking rails but go ahead and keep ignoring that huge aspect. Keep focusing on that one point so you actually have some semblance of an argument against the idea that this movie is one of the most poorly written pieces of shit to come out in the last few years. Exactly, it would've made much more sense to focus on that aspect. People in the village need resources, and the men that go on those dangerous supply runs are treated like heroes. THAT is where the coming of age aspect would've fit in, and gave a reasonable purpose as to why they leave. Then, when they push too far into regions they haven't raided yet (under the dad's orders), they can come across threats they aren't used to, and it gets the scavengers killed, with only the dad and son escaping. People pay for the dad's hubris with their lives, and he returns as a failure.

I'm not surprised, it's the only thing defenders of this movie can argue against but anyone with a brain knows if that was the shittiest written part of the movie then maybe we actually would've gotten a good fucking film. I think the discussion about the rationality of the coming of age ritual is missing the mark a bit. Both sides have a point. There’s nothing wrong with depicting that, but it’s also true that it’s a little alienating for the audience if main characters are just behaving irrationally. It would have been better to establish motivation for why the main character wants to undertake the coming of age ritual. I mean the character is even doing it several years younger than he’s supposed to. Why? He wouldn’t lose face if he didn’t do it. Is it to impress his father? Well, what’s his father’s motivation for it? There are, after all, rational motives behind superficially ‘irrational’ actions like going on a coming of age ritual that brings on psychological and social but not material benefit. But we don’t really get a sense of this in the film. IDK

I didn't enjoy it as much, mainly because of some of the characters being a bit too dumb to move the plot forward, but glad you managed to enjoy it. Just because a movie can reasonably explain why it was a pointless set up for sequel bait garbage, it doesn't make it good or interesting. Just because there's a reasonable explanation as to why this was a massive waste of time, I'm not any more fulfilled or satisfied at the end credits. What is with this mentality of "well, the movie knows it's a piece of shit, that means it's good!" like what the actual fuck is wrong with you? Most real life stories are boring nothing burgers, I might as well hear someone complain about the last flight they were on, fuck you man, this is not what good storytelling is, stop acting like it is just because you were satisfied with a belly full of dogshit.

Yep, a retarded decision that no one who had survived that long would make.
>only 2 kinds. Regular and Alpha. The fat mud ones are regular infected.
No, the fat mud ones were called "Slow Lows", they were specifically different to normal infected in that they gorged on shit crawling on the ground. Didn't need any variants at all.
>deer nitpick
Not even slightly, they couldn't be bothered to use real deer so they used obvious and badly done CG deer.
>her bonding with the pregnant infected was generally insane. But my reasoning is her maternal instincts kicked in plus cancer dementia confused her and she didn’t care. She was just lucky the baby wasn’t infected.
The infected bonding back made no sense either.
>Doctor explains baby
He tries and fails to. He says some bullshit about the placenta, but the problem is that the rage virus is highly infectious, and there is no way that baby was going to develop and then delivered while getting absolutely zero bodily fluids on it from its infected mother.
>I liked the tearing the head off. It makes sense. It’s the fastest way for an alpha to kill a human. And I enjoyed the use of actual prosthetics instead of trash CGI.
One, even a goddamn bodybuilder couldn't tear a man's head and spinal column out, the implication of alphas being that superhuman is retarded. Two, the fastest way for any of them to kill a human is to just tear the throat out, more possible, but they did the head thing because Voldemort needed skulls. Three, a faster way to deal with a human is to literally spit in their face, they immediately get infected.
>infected should’ve had torn clothes. Especially some fast ones showing that they’re newer infected.

It’s the working class man’s self actualisation, to become a legend, for your son to be a legend. It’s self aggrandising yourself. The masculine urge to be the captain of the rugby team or the youngest person to cross onto the mainland. The dad is pushing that onto his son. It’s the same reason why he embellishes it when he gets back to the island. It’s more for aesthetic than the actual rite. It’s being immortalised in the community

If it can happen to an HIV mom and a baby it can probably happen with the rage virus. Probably rare but like I said she was just lucky. Extremely lucky. The mom and son were lucky the whole movie. The bonding made no sense.

Bro, what are you talking about, can you even fucking read? How does this change the fact that it goes nowhere only to be left up to the ether of whatever sequel comes out in the next few years? My point isn't that is makes no sense my point is the plotline is introduced out of nowhere and never properly concluded for arbitrary sequelshit reasons.
