>Dustin Hoffman, a proponent of method acting, prepared for a scene in Marathon Man in which his character had been awake for three days by doing the same himself. When he told this to Laurence Olivier, Olivier remarked, "My dear boy, why don't you just try acting?"

Bloated, terrible hairline, psycho eyes, no beard or stubble, weak feminine shoulders, no wrinkles, asymmetrical cleft chin, curled ear lobes, etc etc etc etc. Ugly as sin.

I unironically love how almost no English actor thinks very much of their profession. I've never seen a single English actor who views it as anything more than a job. It's really nice that they're very unpretentious about the whole thing, much better than American actors who get way too big for their britches.

Because staying up for 3 days would add to the scene, people look and feel like shit staying up that long.

it's just part of getting into character. a classically trained actor would pretend to shed tears, while a method actor would try to shed real actual tears. neither approach is bad

That's just a shit actor making up for lack of skill. The only person who can get away with Method acting is Daniel Day Lewis and this is because he pics awesome projects. Hoffman exhausting himself for Marathon Man is just sad.

Mediocre at best. I've bedded much much cuter/hotter. And yes, I am significantly more attractive physically than that guy at his peak.

Do people here not realize.e that Olivier did all sorts of prep for Lawrence of Arabia to get into the role? This whole convo just feels tongue in cheek and lighthearted

Olivier was not a method actor. He was classically trained.

Daniel Day Lewis literally pretended to be a quadraplegic mute the entire time he filmed My Left Foot. The crew hated his fucking guts because they had to carry him around lol

>Michael Caine was unavailable to accept his Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Hannah and Her Sisters because he was on location filming 1987's Jaws: The Revenge. Hannah and Her Sisters was one of the best-reviewed, most-beloved movies of 1986, while Jaws: The Revenge was widely excoriated by critics and derided by moviegoers. In his "No Stars" review of Jaws: The Revenge, the film critic Roger Ebert provided a list of the many ways he found the movie unbelievable, and then mentioned Hannah and Her Sisters in the last item: "There is one other thing I can't believe about 'Jaws the Revenge,' and that is that on March 30, Michael Caine passed up his chance to accept his Academy Award in person because of his commitment to this movie." Caine, who was paid $1.5 million for seven days work on the Jaws movie, has himself said about it, "I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific."
