The basis would be demonic/other worldly monsters vs earths greatest monsters. Let's say Pinhead/Tall Man opens a portal to the hell dimension and demonic forces are attacking the United States. The military can hold them at bay but no one can enter the portal without being driven insane. The only option is to visit the CIAs secret facility beneath Alcatraz where super natural killers like Jason and Michael Myers are being held and studied. The government puts six of them on a squad (led by Jigsaw) and sends them into the hell portal since only their twisted minds can withstand it
