It's just a bit sad that she doesn't love her family. Most people do.

>She wanted to pay respects to the man who saved her life.
You would think she wouldn't have forgot about him for 80 odd years then.

Because James Cameron is a really bad writer. He can do cool concepts (he used to be able to) Doing the machine effects well and shooting them well is not the same skill as effective creative writing.

>She wanted to pay respects to the man who saved her life

Do you mean the rich, assertive and attractive guy who got her place on a boat to save her life or the lice infested street urchin who caused their ice cold situation she had to be saved to begin with and who will become an alcoholic in 5 years like the rest of guys from his strata?

You're not wrong, this level of neurotic selfishness would probably require a hatred of her family. Like she never even considered giving it to them.

Her ever-present thoughts about the one-true-love she felt back when she was 17 and how (apparently) the quarter billion dollar value Hope diamond jewelry is the perfect representation of her pure love. That it needed to be hurled away into the wreckage of that ship she was on to give their memories true rest after death.

That's even funnier/weirder when you weigh it against your own experiences. Remember banging that super-hot cheerleader in your truck at college? Imagine you then based your entire emotional life until your aged death on that one experience, defining it as the most "real" thing you ever did and if you ever saw her again, you'd give her your life savings before you die to honor that steamy romp we had in my old Ford pickup.
