Capaldi WAS the time to reboot. You had a lead actor that really knew and cared about the character and Smith's run ended with the new regeneration cycle gimmick. Perfect time to pull the reins back a bit and switch tactic. When his era continued the faggotry I knew it was over.

>Capaldi WAS the time to reboot.
THIS

I'm a huge Capaldi defender and he has some of the finest episodes of nuWho, but overall his era is very inconsistent with little connecting tissue. It's all over the place and features some of the worst excesses of Smith's era too. Just a massive shame. It makes his whole era feel tired and unwelcome (doubly so because of Clara). I think he'll judged kinder by time (hell this is already the case) but the show really missed a trick by not doing a soft reboot for S8.

Define a โ€˜hard rebootโ€™. A reboot starting with the first Doctor? Wouldnโ€™t work. However, a reboot starting from an alternative 13th Doctor or an unnumbered incarnation (and abandoning the numbering altogether) might.

The only way you can have any kind of reboot now is to have a long hiatus beforehand. Something to put clear blue water between NuWhoโ€™s abominable later years and whatever you want to do with it next. It has to feel fresh in the public psyche.

I do think it needs some kind of a โ€˜rebootโ€™ where at least part of NuWho is explicitly redone/retconned somehow, but no future showrunner will have the balls to do this. Thatโ€™s why I think the showโ€™s future is looking very bleak desu

If the first glimpse of the new Doctor is him emerging from the snow (implying regeneration from Capaldi) that would be the most possible way to do it. Explicitly retconning 13 onwards would be too openly disrespectful to those who worked on it, but just implying it allows everyone to save face.

>13 - Liz Truss.
Championed by a tiny group of weirdos but completely tanked the brand for generations
>15 - Rishi Sunak.
Minority brought in with the intention to "right the ship" and appeal to a wider audience but failed miserably
>10 - Boris Johnson.
Originally popular with most of the general public, but his repeated returns have soured his image. Was actually terrible for the brand and the more people learn about the subject, the more people see how bad he was.
>5 - Keir Starmer
Not particularly popular, but chosen because most people agreed a change was needed. Pretty ill-defined characterisation and is usually defined by what he isn't more than what he is. He is also frequently at odds with his own team

>Insane how Tony Blair turned the birthplace of liberalism into a nation of bootlickers.
Blair was a Thatcherite. A lot of the complaints people have about modern life in Britain boil down to feeling powerless and/or the wrong people having power, money problems, and no sense of community like the good old days.
The solution to all of these is and always was at least some socialism (antithetical to people who believe 'there's no such thing as society').
