It was propagandized as this MASSIVE success, but it’s really not. Between the production and marketing it cost 150 million dollars, with the theater taking their cut that’s 300 million breakeven point, so about 25 million dollars of profit. Streaming will bring in some extra money. This is definitely not a bomb, but it does raise questions about the future profitability of the “AYO FUCK YPIPO” horror sub-genre. Jordan Peele’s HIM flopping will probably be the final nail in the coffin. Studios thought that black people liked these movies, but it was actually mostly white liberals, and they got bored after a while.
