How would you do a black Superman?

Maybe grew up with racism in Kansas, but because he literally can't be hurt in any way he can look at it dispassionately, finding it curious. He has the freedom to face it head on, maybe turn some people around.

And that's the story of Superman from then on. Can't be hurt, has total freedom, but his biggest challenge is winning hearts and minds.

Unironically i actually posted treatment summary of Abrams Coates, and Michael B Jordans Supes like 2 years ago. It had tremendous amount of knee jerk emotion from George Floyd situation embedded in the story. I still laugh at the absolute woke they were going to include. Script is in turnaround after Gunn being brought in.

You would have to change the entire character and his origin. He cannot be a boyscout from Kansas. It'd be interesting as an Elseworlds sort of story. Superman but it's The Wire and he's in the hood.

If you want "black Superman" then the most soulless and retarded way to go about it is keeping everything the same and just shoving a different race into the same origin story. I'd read a story about a black Superman arriving on Earth in the early 1800s and being found and raised by a black slave family.

Steel isn't really anything like Superman though despite being one of his characters. Totally different backstory, powerset, etc. Icon is more or less just "black Superman" alien who came to Earth in pod with similar powers.

Static will always be DCs best black character anyway

>How would you do a black Superman?
Step 1:Don't because you're not capable of doing something as good as the Superman you're comparing it to. Accept you don't have that level of talent and it will just flop no matter how much you call something racist or explain why it makes sense, really.

Step 2:Adapt this instead https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icon_(character) because he's a DC property, he checks all the boxes you want checked, royalties will go to the family of a black guy so you're helping your cause, and nobody will cry raceswapping or anything of that sort so the movie is free to stand up and win like Black Panther or fail on its own merits.

Step 3:You've actually brought something worthwhile into the world instead of more raceswapped failures. Congrats.

The problem with Icon is nobody knows who the fuck he is. Steel has a giant S on his chest and a big red cape, which helps sell that he's a black Superman analogue. This isn't to say that I disagree with you, but the common man wouldn't give a fuck about Icon and would about Steel, as Steel is different enough from Superman to not just be a clone of him.

- Discovered and raised by a black mother and black father
- Movie involves zero references to racism. Everywhere in the US wasn't virulently racist. Especially among poor towns, all races coexisted pretty well.
- No weird racial jokes - "damn even for a black guy, he's fast!' - just no.
- Clark grew up going to primarily black schools (still white and asian and hispanic kids too, but majority black) and all the childhood/adolescent experiences that entails except he has superpowers
- Seriously. No hamfist dumb racial jokes. Everybody just being cool and normal.
- [Superman movie with requisite, period-appropriate action scenes and fight scenes]
- Love interest is fine. Let's keep it an action movie though, not a drama.
- No. Dumb. Racial. Jokes. "Hey brotha, white man gonna arrest you for flying through da air like dat!"
- The end

do it during the late 60's/early 70s at the height of the Vietnam War and Black Power movement. he's black, but he's not African American black. he sees the struggle, but he can never truly understand it as the only white man that can hurt him needs to use magic space rocks to do it. you're torn between the fact that if he wanted to, he could end the Vietnam War singlehandedly but the ethical implications of him acting on behalf of America. there's a lot you could do with it that would be interesting and not like modern woke "black good white bad".

also make Pa and Ma Kent a WMBF couple.

You're missing the point. Black Kryptonians are weaker because they block more sunlight. It's that dumb a concept and yet not only did the comics do it multiple times in alternate universes where Val-Zod is even POTUS, but other versions that were still repeatedly attempted as better versions.
