The movie is a fucking ridiculous incomprehensible mess. The aesthetic choices in the film indicate that it's trying for realism, but instead it manages to be even more campy and comic-booky than the Burton films, all the while being praised by retards for how "authentic" and "edgy" it is.

The Joker is quite possibly the most contrived character ever depicted in film. The Dark Knight has an irredeemably nonsensical plot that requires the audience to not merely suspend their disbelief, but dispense of it entirely. It is incomprehensible how any of the Joker's schemes could possibly work without the director's assertion that "they just do." I somehow missed all this during my initial viewing of the movie in the theater, and while that experience was indeed quite fun, this movie has aged like cheese in Louisiana. The only reason I could possibly comprehend why people could defend this movie is if their only experience with the film is in the theater when it premiered; if you've seen it more than once, it is apparent how fucking stupid this movie is in every possible way.

It has nothing on Burton movies, Batman TAS or even the first 2 Arkham games. It lacks... the exaggeration that gives Batman plausibility. Batman and the Joker work because the world they inhabit allows them to. Gotham is not a normal city but a place of unrealistic extreme corruption and madness. Batman is a reaction to that world.

Burton expressed that in a visible palpable form and TAS and Arkham city refined it. Conroy and Hamill are really analog to Batman and the Joker. They are the standard against which every single adaptation competes and they are all found lacking. And the Arkham games are where both meet.

Compared to that The dark knight is irrelevant. It´s not a bad movie and Ledger does a good job considering the conceptual limitations but he is not the Joker. Neither is Joaquin Phoenix for that matter. Even Nicholson falls short. Nolan´s version has nothing special to it, not to mention it makes quite a few changes to accommodate things to it´s more grounded vision.

Everytime another Batman/DC movie releases The Dark Knight gets worse just because the villain is doing their worst Heath Ledger impression. Had it ended with the Nolan trilogy the movie still would be loved but after Jared Leto and Juaquin Phoenix Joker, New Joker + the new Riddler and Eisenberg Luthor, I'm exhausted of the agent of chaos. To add some context why I prefered Batman Begins, perhaps it could be because I watched TDK right after BB. As someone watching superhero movie for first time, it was great seeing character beginnings, buildup and growing during movie, Scarecrow and Ra's were formidable and charismatic villains but the center piece of movie was still Batman. Then I watched Dark Knight next day, and despite also being a good movie it felt more like a movie about Joker and Harvey Dent, new Rachel had as much screen time as Batman and to be frank I didn't give a shit about her expanded role in Dark Knight

That's a bit much. I was 25 when it came out and I saw it in a nice theater and it was awesome, but it wasn't that big a deal at all. It was just a cool action movie that happened to be a comic book thing too somehow. People are taking all that capeshit way too seriously.

Begins is straight a better movie. They actually bothered making Gotham look like Gotham, for one thing. Bruce has a better character arc over the course of the film.
The thing about TDK is it just got loads of press, as a side effect of the whole Heath Ledger thing.

I liked the first spiderman flicks and xmen flicks but after those I honestly thought superhero movies were stupid. I never really understood the love for them.
