Why didn't he get into acting like the others did?
>But he can't act!
So can't Rock, Cena, and Batista. Didn't stop them going to Hollywood and from getting roles.

He did star in a few movies. He was a bad guy in the first Expendables, most of his other roles seem to be in direct to DVD action schlock. The only ones I've seen were The Condemned and Damage, which were both solid enough for what they were, and the girl in Damage was really hot.

Either Hollywood just didn't want him for anything bigger, or he didn't want to do what it takes to make it big in Hollywood the way Rock, Cena and Batista were.

David can act, he just choses bad roles with the exception of Sapper Morton. Man even took acting lessons because he understood how important that role in Blade Runner was.

Steve was in The Longest Yard and Death Race remakes. Dwayne can't act, and has tried several times in his career to hijack projects.

John is mediocre. Knows his range. It's why he's a C-Tier D.C. Hero on TV.

The difference between Undertaker and the other wrestlers named in this thread is he was playing a gimmick that WWE owned, not an exaggerated version of himself. You couldn't really put him in a movie as the character he's known for, the way you can put the Rock or Cena in a movie and have them basically be the same guy as they are in wrestling.

Remember when Austin skipped the brand split draft in 2002 because he wasn't going to be the first pick?

Remember when he no showed a bunch of Raws in Fall 01 because he had to put kurt angle over for 9/11 reasons and he didn't want to?

Remember when he walked out again because he was seething over lesnar and vince was trying to move on from Austins old ass?

Remember when he didn't want to put The Rock over at WrestleMania 2000 so he got his neck surgery faster than he was supposed to?

Remember when Austin came back in 2003 and got embarrassed by Triple H for being a pretend sheriff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuNAYdcgRcc&t=41s

Just about every wrestler who successfully goes to Hollywood ends up having to do some weird effeminate, gay or crossdressing shit. Either to show their range and prove they're not one-note or as part of a Hollywood emasculation ritual, depending on how conspiratorial you are. There's no way Steve Austin would play ball with Hollywood on that front.

I used to listen to his podcast and he had a barely concealed contempt for Hollywood types. I think it's likely they tried to put him in a dress or make him act like a fag.

He was a wrestler who wanted to wrestle and was more of a technician pre injury than a brawler. He did not have a foot out the door to Hollywood.

I imagine he is also connected to a lot of Vince shit being the face of the industry during its most popular period. Heโ€™s probably keeping his head down.

He was fine, but he doesn't have the charisma or stage presence of the Rock. Stone Cold is perfect for wrestling though. It also doesn't help that he was the babyface in his movies instead of the heel.

I used to go to RSPW (a newsgroups on usenet in the 90s) and it wasn't like this. Old internet users were dedicated, but normalish. Now it's fucking insane.

Vince is genuinely retarded for wanting to book prime Brock Lesnar vs. Steve Austin in a throw away match on RAW instead of building to PPV match to sell some tickets. Austin was right.

HHH didn't do anything "wrong" (asides from being in the Kliq and holding people back).
It seems to go like this
>Austin = no politics + bad behavior = ok
>HHH = MAGA(ish) + no bad behavior = ok
>Undertaker = MAGA + no bad behavior = ok
>Hogan = MAGA + bad behavior = not ok
I'm sure WWE fans seethe over the fact that the McMahon's were huge Trump fans and donors to his campaign, but they love the company too much to care.

This. Austin said that he would have jobbed to Brock if they did business the proper way and built it up to a PPV where they could make real money. WCW did the same shit when they had Goldberg win the title from Hogan on Nitro instead of doing it on PPV.

He put Rock over in his final fucking match. I also remember him losing to Bret at Survivor Series 96. Mankind also pinned him in a triple thread match at Summer Slam 99. He also lost the belt a few times (Undertaker/Kane both pinned him in some kind of match, I can't remember).
Austin was definitely protected and he was a huge pain in the ass to work with from what I've heard. But he has done jobs (and they wanted to do some shit like have him lose to Brock on Raw or to a scrub like Jeff Jarrett).

frankly he was far too egotistical about his tough-guy persona and he's too typecast to do that. He missed his calling as a comedic actor/toughguy frankly. His comedy stuff in WWE was fucking GOLD, he should have explored all of that, so should Kurt Angle. They both missed an opportunity to do buddy cop films at the very least.

Because Austin wasn't half as bad as Hogan. Austin refused to do a few jobs here and there while putting over actual talent like Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit and guys who he knew could draw like The Rock and HHH and saved WWF.

Hogan derailed people's careers for no reason and politicked for his entourage of talentless nuthuggers to take spots from more talented wrestlers and killed WCW.

Dwane obviously overselling Austinโ€™s stunner all the time was hilarious. I get he later retconned a story that it was all a backstage bet for beers. But it legit made Austin look like a fool. I remember there was some other match (I canโ€™t remember who it was) completely oversold every Austin move, not just the closer, to the point it was basically insulting.

It's a bit weird that wrestlers are just basically stuntmen who look like action heroes and do nothing but act. Then they transition into real movies, don't do their own stunts, can't act, and no one can really take them seriously as action heroes because they're so associated with wrestling. They should be ideal candidates for being actors.

I just went back and watched Attitude era product after a long time and I definitely don't remember his promo skills being that weak. He was stepping all over his words and not making any clear point most of the time. Compare that to Rock's dynamite promos that were the stuff of dreams and it's easy to ask yourself why, in hindsight, was Stone Cold so big when there wrestlers at the time who were better at everything he did? Of course the answer is he was pushed by Vince but still, the perception remains.

Stone Cold looking like an idealized working stiff you'd find at a bar who hates his boss and his wife went a long way. He's the cool guy your dad knew who's kind of a loser but in your shitty small town circle he seems cooler than he is because he doesn't seem miserable and just does and says what he wants.
He wasn't the first guy to lean into an average joe angle, but he's the first big one not to make it seem like a humble backstory but embraced being an asshole who was rude and obnoxious but made a point.
The rambling just added to that. He's a guy you could know who they put to use beating people up.

That's where the idealization comes in. In real life your dad's bald friend from work has a beer guy and pisses himself, Stone Cold isn't that guy but he doens't look that far off compared to the 80's/early 90's stables.
And 6'2'' is relatively average for a white guy back then, and smaller than the monsters that used to be headliners. everything about Austin is, relatively, unremarkable and that's part of what made him work.He isn't worried about being healthy, he's chugging beers and still kicking peoples ass.

By the time he was getting into movies in the mid-2000s he was 41, had blown knees, a fucked back, and was dealing with chronic pain and limited movement from when Owen Hart broke his neck.

Stone Cold was too old and physically broken to keep playing the tough young badass character he was pigeonholed into and any other role/look was simply impossible for him. Add in he didn't even need the money since he still makes royalties to this day and yeah, it's not hard to see why movies were always just a hobby and he never bothered to go hard at them like The Rock did.
