it was really just a satire of 80s/90's culture in a more modern time. indie as fuck and well shot diff pace for movies of the time. it was noteworthy but not groundbreaking or anything. def have not seen it more than a handful of times.

napoleon fulfill the role of the wandering ronin, he needs no credit, just to help someone as odd and outcast as him then vanish back to the obscurity is comfortable with (though even he has an arc as by the end he is social with the ponytail girl)

also tetherball is an allegory for sex and its masterfully done

It grew on me. I saw it in theaters with my friends and the first time I saw it I didnโ€™t think it was very funny but I chuckled at the opening scene when he throws the action figure out of the bus window. The second time I saw it at a friends house and I was genuinely laughing out loud, and now I love it. Itโ€™s a great comfy movie to put on in the background. Okay, thatโ€™s it, Iโ€™m going to put on Napoleon Dynamite to distract me from the fact that I have work tomorrow

It was also absolutely spot-on accurate for mid-2000s Idaho. Some people think that the dated, 80s/90s look of the characters and setting was just a quirky style choice but thatโ€™s exactly what it was like in some of those small rural towns, kinda makes me miss visiting my grandmaโ€™s house there as a kid

The cow story happened to the directorโ€™s little brother, kek.

>The cow being shot in front of the school bus, that actually happened. My mom and dad were raising a cow as a hobby, and it started to, like, charge and attack my mom, and we called an old farmer in our ward to come over and take care of it. He was hard of hearing and shot the cow in front of my little brotherโ€™s school bus as he was headed off to kindergarten.
