Michael Imperioli is a fine actor with 111 credits on his imdb profile. Yet you only know him from one thing. Interesting reflection of your tastes anon.

A recently released book by an HBO executive sort of sheds light on this, the bad blood over that incident resulted in Tony Sirico not wanting to film scenes with Michael anymore... David Chase knew he wanted Paulie alive to the end of the show, so it was easier to kill Chrissy off quick (as was planned for the second half of S06 anyway) than argue and renegotiate contracts with either actor. Tony's dramaqueen shit on set often gets overlooked by Steve Schirripa's blustering or Furio getting clumsily written off, but he was by far the most finicky regular to work with over the course of the show. They bent over backwards for ol' Walnuts and the separately-catered meals he insisted on. I suppose sheer acclaim for the role vindicated him to some extent in the end, not to speak ill of a dead man. Not unlike Gandolfini himself.

That's where the original "hot dinner" meme came from, a Friends-style evolution of an old Ebaumsworld or /b/ meme mocking Sirico for an interview where he got razzed about his seething. I don't remember if it was Letterman or Jay Leno or one of those other hawks, but he went on a late-night show and showed his ass when they tried to poke fun about the catering incident. Clearly playing along for the joke but annoyed at it even being brought up. I have no idea if they (Michael/Tony) even reconciled before the latter died.

Robin Green's memoir has more information on the cast and drama but there's a wide range of reading material, docs, books, behind-the-scenes footage etc... you have to be a real Sopranos autist (or just an autist) to dive through all the available source materials to paint a complete picture.

I guess I sort of get Tony's base issue, my grandfather was a diabetic and would throw real fits if someone microwaved a pizza after dinnertime or what have you, the smell filled the house and nauseated him or irritated him. I'm guessing Tony had similar issues and was sensitive about it, but with old-school machismo stopping him from acknowledging it openly. Similar parallels to Italian toxic masculinity often lanced throughout The Sopranos, I find it somewhat spiritually compelling how often reality mirrors the fictions we weave
