It precisely got cancelled because NBC and the local sheriff's office fucked up and acted like the police was taking commands from the show's production crew. And it was the gay pedophile district attorney's rich family that put lawyers against NBC.
That being said the local authorities absolutely also got pissed off from the situation, all the men caught in that last sting got away with it because prosecution decided to blanket drop all of the charges brought up.
