Yeah, AIDS is an alien parasite that turns you super strong and causes you to eat people. Isn't Russia basically an African country when it comes to AIDS rates, anyway? How embarrassing for you.

I have always wondered about something: The Thing creates a perfect copy of its host or whatever you want to call it, including memories. Now, does the Thing itself know it's the Thing once it has taken over someone? Considering it's a perfect copy, it shouldn't have any memories of being the Thing.
Now if you take this train of thought further, what if the Thing jas already taken over humanity but it just can't remember?

China can get nuked. Half of America can get nuked. I would not care at all. Wtf does that have to do with John Carpenter saying that The Thing was a metaphor for AIDS?

The Thing (1982 film) — The screenplay was written by Bill Lancaster, and it is based on the novella Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell Jr. Before the 1982 version was made, there was a 1951 film titled The Thing from Another World. The screenplay for the 1951 film was written by Charles Lederer, and the movie was directed by Christian Nyby (though producer Howard Hawks is also often credited with co-directing).

John Carpenter did not write the story, he only directed the movie.

People who bring up The Thing From Another World to diminish John Carpenter's movie have obviously never watched it. They're barely alike.
The Thing From Another World is a hokey 50's monster movie where a vampire that looks like Frankenstein is running around beating people up to suck their blood.

Yep, Palmer-Thing and Norris-Thing both go around the camp sabotaging things, trying to stir chaos and implicate others like Macready. Rewatching knowing they're things, you can easily see them always standing back, staying out of attention, looking to each other for guidance/trying to decide on plans, etc. Sneaky buggers those thingers.

He basically just took the title and core concept. It barely even qualifies as a remake, it's more like "inspired by." It's like saying Avatar is a remake of Dances With Wolves, because their story structure is identical.
