>>212182651This. Kong is the compromise, and actually gets normie asses in seats. Toho can get away with their super cereal Godzilla movies because their movies cost probably what the American productions spend on catering, thus they can cater to a fairly niche audience.
The Monsterverse movies on the other hand need as many asses in seats as possible internationally, and scientists huddled around a table isn’t going to do that.
The Planet of the Apes movies proved that you can make a movie carried largely by a digital ape work for general audiences, so you can have a charismatic main character running around and have it still be a monster. Godzilla emoting the way Kong does would just come off as hokey, and rob him a lot of his “force of nature” presence.
