I think this was one of the last films to receive a genuine Oscar. It's incredible how much of a meme the Oscars are now.

the Mumbai scenes are authentic because they just let the crew wild on the streets with handheld cameras. The kids were the most inauthentic part as the actors are obviously from a higher social class than the characters, and they use weird transliterated expressions because the script was written by a bong.
