This is a thread discussing the future of the James Bond franchise. So, Denis Villeneuve is the director for Bond 26 except he has Dune: Messiah to shoot, edit and release before he's able to start pre-production which means NO NEWS of note for about 2 years. Which also means Bond 26 will release, if it even gets made and this isn't a Danny Boyle 2.0, in 2029-2030. THAT'S 8 TO 9 YEARS SINCE NO TIME TO DIE. This is obscene and should not be allowed to happen. Either have Denis pull double duty on both movies and hire someone else after he inevitably backs down.
>>212186707 (OP)He'll shoot Zendaya's (obvious new Bond girl) scenes back-to-back.
This guy being hired guarantees that we're still stuck in Craig era realism-and-pretentiousness instead of fun and adventure. What a horrible timeline. Craig has ruined Bond FOREVER.
Absolutely the worst possible director tthey could have gone with. I honsetly can't think of anyone else less suitable
>>212186707 (OP)This guy is like Mendes, Fukunaga, and all the other recent Bond directors. He absolutely does not have the right sensibilities for Bond. The classic movies were made by chads and workmen, not sensitive artfags. The novels are airport paperbacks for red-blooded men, like Fleming himself said. They're about a chad operator who goes around the world bedding women, drinking, and killing megalomaniac nerds who want to ruin the world, and that's what the best Bond movies are about, too. They are not supposed to be 3-hour melodramas about overcoming childhood trauma and other nonsense, which is what I assume Bond 26 is going to be.
>>212186884Amazon would rather please oversocialized mark losers, I'm sorry, film buffs on social media who don't care about Bond and never have than Bond fans and the general audience who wants machismo fun and adventure.
>>212187023Denis trudging on about how he's such a big childhood Bond fan than naming only the most popular and basic films as his "personal favorites" is as grim a warning for Bond 26 as it gets. Get ready for something that will make WEET IK seem like better days. It's OVER.
Even worse, Martin Campbell is still alive and kicking and made 3 films in just 2024/2025. He wants to do it, every Bond fan wants him to do it. It was staring them in the fucking face. He could have the movie done by late 2026 but NOOOOO, get this guy that people on social media supposedly like and want (let alone the fact that most general audiences have no clue who he is or why they should care about the fact that he's taking on Bond) who will only be able to start work on the movie in 2027 after PROMISING people the long waits are over.
>>212187023You'd think Amazon would be the best place for Bond given they produced Reacher and The Terminal List which are just Bond knock-offs but alas..
>>212186707 (OP)Biggest get in franchise history, genuinely insane. He will make a fantastic movie but I think it will be closer to the Craig era's moody seriousness when the franchise needs to go back to being fun and a bit silly.
Maybe they should just get Campbell again.
I hope the rumor that David Leitch could direct was true and went through
>>212187421>No, I know nothing about Bond and have never seen a Bond movie. He's a sexist relic and should be obsolete but Villeneueve making a Bond movie excites me for some reason?!!Fuck off.
>>212186707 (OP)There is no future
>>212187421You're acting like they got Christopher Nolan instead of his embarrassing French wannabe imitator who hasn't done an original movie in 10 years.
>>212187474He's not a respected name among the 000000000000000.1 percent of the population that obsessively stuffs social media pertaining to film and TV which muddies the perception of reality to studio execs who are out of touch.
>>212186707 (OP)there is a slim chance of kino where he unofficially makes Sicario 3 with added James Bond where Brolin plays Leiter
but who the hell am I kidding. just cast a short black fat man and lets get it over with, kill the franchise.
Is this just another Villeneuve death cult thread?
Ostie que chu fier de mon Denis.
>>212186707 (OP)if it's for zoomers, no other option but tom holland.
>>212187601Sicario was only good because it had a good script. All the visual artistry and director trickery in the world can't uplift a bad script, everyone knows this. BUT Denis Villabananas doesn't have final cut rights so this means he'll just be reduced to a working hand which is baffling considering he wants to be viewed as an auteur. Nolan would never agree to that. I hope they get some good action movie writer like Drew Pearce (who's also English) to pen the script.
>>212187519Nolan ripped off Bond enough probably feels it wouldnt be right
This goes in one of three ways:
>1
Denis does the expected and makes Skyfall 2. An overtly serious thriller. It's one of the best movies in the franchise but it's more of the same we got from the Craig era.
>2
Denis surprises everyone and shows us he can make a movie that's fun, cheeky and sexy. Not the return of Moore's sillyness but something like early-era Brosnan.
>3
He aims for Casino Royale. Serious but fun, sexy but tragic, and romantic. Something closer to the books. The big sell will be that "we're making a book-accurate Bond".
The truth is that we're getting a pretty good movie regardless. Won't be a masterpiece or anything but it's not like Bond is a masterpiece factory.
Will be interesting to see how he works with a studio who won't treat him like an auteur. He won't get final cut privileges and won't have the final say on who to cast as Bond. He'll be treated as a journeyman and that's the way to go
>>212187023He is a million times worse than Mendes or Fukunaga. At least those guys know how to construct an action scene and shoot composition which doesn't insult your eyes
He is the dullest filmmaker of this generation
>>212187653No auteur should EVER have free reign over Bond. Mendes was bad enough. These guys just don't GET it. Neither does Nolan. Bond is an action movie franchise for men and boys. These priviliged, oversocialized, pretentious university artfags can't COMPREHEND what makes Bond work as a character and why he appeals to his audience. They're so far removed from the intended audience of Bond that it's honestly laughable. Might as well get a woman who makes Hallmark movies to direct. She has the same innate understanding of Bond as they do. Which is none.
>>212187713to argue your point, Fukaniga is a prominent yesman and we got served up the worst Bond movie. If hes the one who had the idea of Ana d'Armas wearing barely anything in an action well done to him, but thats the only good part of the movie
>>212187487Nice projection retard but I understand this franchise more than you ever will.
>He's a sexist relic and should be obsoleteyou're fighting with redditors in your head, that's who you're obsessing with
>>212187696I reluctantly agree to this but only for Fukunuga. I hated NTTD but he got the action/visuals down without sacrificing one for the other. He's a pozzed fag who should be whipped for his Connery comments but can't deny he has skill and made the best out of a horrible script and a horrible Bond.
(also that picture of Craig and Babs boils my blood like you could not imagine)
>>212187671The most likely option is Option 2. People here are assuming he'll do Craig again but, like you said, he's a journeyman on Bond. He has no control. Amazon wants to bring Bond back to being a quippy, light action hero with no pretensions because that's where the culture is at right now.
>>212187713obsessed.
I think the director of the popular popcorn blockbuster Dune 2, which was beloved by the masses, can do a good Bond movie.
>>212187777If you understand Bond, as you claim, you'd see Villeneueve is the worst possible choice for director. But we might both be arguing to a wall because has no final cut so it won't really matter because he'll just be working off Amazon's vision.
>>212187758Fuckyounaga's direction was competent and the only decent part of a cinematic travesty. He did his job just fine and that's what Bond needs. Albeit only if the script doesn't include Bond being cucked, dying and having his 00 number passed down to a fat black negress.
>>212187841>popular popcorn blockbuster>barely broke even>third part got made only because of sunk cost fallacy by the studio>appeal to authority and zeitgeistEnd your life.
>>212187671>2>Denis surprises everyone and shows us he can make a movie that's fun, cheeky and sexy. Not the return of Moore's sillyness but something like early-era Brosnan.>>212187813>The most likely option is Option 2Not a fucking chance. There's not a single hint of that in whole filmography.
the best thing about him is he churns out movies like directors used to. even though Dune 3 only starts filming next month Im confident this guy can get the new Bond movie out by 2027
>>212187900It doesn't matter what precedent there is in Denis' movies. HE DOES NOT HAVE FINAL CUT. He has ceded that he's a journeyman director who's only doing this to fulfill a childhood dream and strike it off his bucket list.
>>212188013Amazon MGM did book a May 27, 2027 release date for an untitled film and everyone in the industry is saying it's 100% meant to be Bond. If we go by the timeline of him shooting Dune in July to, what, November-December? Can he feasibly do post-production work on that and then work/shoot Bond in the same time? Why would WB allow him to do that?
>>212187889I dunno man, if you make a 200 million dollar movie and it makes 715 million, I think you have what it takes to make a simple Bond flick. You got at least some understanding of what people want.
Villeneuve is not the guy that's making "arthouse blockbusters" (never a thing btw) flops like Blade Runer or mid-brow classics like Enemy and Arrival, he's a very commercial director at this point. I think he'll do fine.
>>212188014The studio is not going to be able to edit pre-Craig tone into the movie if it's not there to begin with.
>>212188056I think its probably the reason he was chosen as director. Id bet Amy Pascal will be organising a lot of the movie
>>212188014This. All this talk of Villeneuve of how Bond is sacred to him and how watching Dr No with his dad is an important memory for him just makes me feel like this is more of a dream job and he's willing to do the part.
Even the basic understanding that Bond is a thing your dad takes you to watch is there. We're not getting wacky ass Moore/Brosnan, I think we'll be getting something like From Russia
>>212186707 (OP)Are you fucking retarded?
Have you forgotten that Denis literally became famous for releasing 5 kinos back-to-back across 5 consecutive years?
>>212188073His most commercial movie would be Sicario, not Dune. That's a pretty straight-up thriller. Dune is very much not anything approaching commercial fare anyone can watch. It did great for what it is but it's not a huge success considering both movies barely broke even, if at that.
>>212188074They clearly hold all the cards here and if they tell him "make GoldenEye 2.0", he will do it.
>>212188074
>>212188142>Have you forgotten that Denis literally became famous for releasing 5 kinos back-to-back across 5 consecutive years?please tell these "kinos"
Arrival and Bladerunner 2049 are fucking shit btw
>>212188167I don't have time to converse with mentally retarded plebs like yourself
>>212186884You think Denis is worse than Nolan?
>>212188215they are both shit
>>212188142>SicarioPractically a Taylor Sheridan movie.
>ArrivalNolan-aping slop.
>Blade Runner 2049Ridley Scott-aping slop that flopped.
>Dune and Dune 2Astroturfed garbage that is only kept alive due to "prestige" and industry bullshit, not anything to do with its financial success of which that can barely be said at all.
>>212188139Generic PR speak. Don't believe his lies.
>>212188095How on earth is he going to work post and full-on work on Bond 26 to make that May 2027 release date? That is not feasible.
BOND 26 UPDATES:
Apparently, Heyman wants a lesser-known British actor in his very early 30's while Amy Pascal has been pushing hard for ATJ to be cast as Bond. The Variety article published days ago is pure nonsense, Tom Holland is not being looked at for Bond at all and neither is Jacob Elordi or Dickinson. It's PR team promotion bought and paid for.
>>212188217100% yes and I'm no fan of Nolan
>>212188327they want to tie someone down for 10 years, which I dont think is possible anymore
>>212188217Contrarians are fucking retarded. News at 11.
>>212188347Nolan would have final cut
>>212188262>>Arrival>Nolan-aping slop.Nolan wishes he could make a film as good as Arrival. Absolutely embarrassing
>>212188433Nolan also reportedly wanted it to be a period piece and stick closely to the novel.
>>212188377I've said it a million of times but it's staring them right in the fucking face:
>Leo Suter>31 years old which is in the perfect sweet spot of not too young, not too old, it's a perfect age>little known but has the acting chops and the looks down to the T and could be free for 10 years given his current low-profile status>would actually surprise people when he's announced because they didn't get bombarded with him for years on end unlike ATJsadly I think it'll be the obvious choice (ATJ) because they did cow down to the public and got Villeneueve to appease NPC's so they will get ATJ. i like ATJ so it won't be a problem to me but i'm just saying that this guy is a better, more inspired choice.
>>212188458Interstellar is better.
>>212187860Villeneuve is a safe choice. It's the "worst" only in the sense that we expected Bond to return to something less serious again, which honestly might've been something we worked ourselves into for no reason.
The only true issue he has is that he can't make a sexy movie to save his life (it's the same with Nolan), but even Dune 2 had an overtly sexy scene so I'm willing to be surprised.
We're just going off his filmography so if we get what we expect (Skyfall but better), we'll get a great movie. If he manages to go against type and make a Bond that feels like the classics, then good as well.
It's a bit disappointing that we're not getting wacky Bond again, but at this point I just want a good movie, which he can definitely deliver.
At the end of the day Bond has never been a director-led franchise, even during the Craig era. There's a reason why Broccoli never got big names for these movies. If Denis has good ideas and the producers like them, they're in the movie (I mean, there's a reason they got him), otherwise? He'll have to shut up and do what they ask.
>>212188157>A Rated R gritty thriller is more commercial than a PG-13 sci-fi with beautiful actorsMy dad hated Sicario but loved both Dunes, I don't think you people understand mass appeal. Objectively speaking making 700 million dollars is a movie the masses like.
>>212188458That is an insanely embarrassing statement. Think long and hard about your life. Putting a forgotten 2016 sci-fi slop film over a beloved master of film like Nolan.
Villeneuve is probably the best working blockbuster director at the moment. He's the best hope the franchise has ever had.
>>212188327>>212188502Yess
Heyman is in the right

>>212188518>My dad hated Sicario but loved both Dunes, I don't think you people understand mass appeal. Objectively speaking making 700 million dollars is a movie the masses like.Didn't know your dad was the supreme authority. No way a dad would like Dune over a movie like Sicario. Stop making shit up. It's lame and embarrassing. Someone in your dad's age range would eat Sicario up.
>It's a bit disappointing that we're not getting wacky Bond again, but at this point I just want a good movie, which he can definitely deliver. At most, I want GoldenEye. It had a serious plot full of drama, betrayal and political intrigue but not at the expense of the action, adventure, romance and fun. Surely, he can do that, right?

ATJ looks great in a tux and looks amazing clean shaven but he never is clean shaven when he wears a tux. I need to see both of these guys clean shaven in a tux to precisely be convinced of their Bondness.
>>212188592>Holy fucking pleb BatmanYou have 0 arguments. Arrival is a less sophisticated version of Interstellar.
>RedditImplying Villeneuve isn't a reddit favourite as well.
>>212188157>if they tell himThen why the hell would they hire him if they needed a puppet to shove their hand into?
I think you put too much stock into the 'final cut' clause. It doesn't mean that director has surrendered control over everyone he hires and everything that goes onto the set. Yes, the studio can just choose not to put it in, but they can't magically edit it into something it is not.
Not that I give a fuck. Let him do his own thing with his drab style. The franchise scraped the lowest of the low a long time ago. Only autists who think hating Villeneuve counts as a personality believe him directing is a bad thing.
I sincerely believe that when the first new James Bond in over EXACTLY 20 years is announced, it needs to be made into a sticky. That kind of monumental announcement deserves it. Unless it's a non-white.
>>212188674>Then why the hell would they hire him if they needed a puppet to shove their hand into?Go ask Denis that. Why would he agree to direct a film he doesn't have final cut on at this stage of his career and his age? Clearly, he's doing this just to get it off of his bucket list, as was previously mentioned. Final cut is the decision that trickles down through everything in the production. If he is willing to cede that, what makes you think he has any real, concrete control over who is Bond and the story? Amazon paid 10 billion dollars to get their hands on Bond. They're never, ever, not even to Nolan, ceding actual creative control to anyone but the two producers, Heyman and Pascal. You talk like an NPC imbecile.
>>212188649c'mon man, he is a great actor but has no Bond vibe at all. dude looks sleazecore lately

>>212188579>can't believe a dad can like a picture like Dunethis is what I mean by how you don't understand appeal.
My dad hated Sicario because he thought the main character was useless and the plot was too slow. He liked Dune because he thought it was fun, well acted and well made.
He's not an "authority" you weirdo. lmfao don't need to get pissy. It's just an example to show how maybe you don't really understand what the masses want as much as you think you do.
>all I want is GoldenEyeeh don't think you're getting that tonally, but you are prolly getting a movie with a serious plot full of drama, betrayal, political intrigue, action, adventure, romance and fun. It's from a guy who made Dune 2 which has all of that
>>212188626he's mostly carried by casting sexy actors, which is a Bond director staple. Another reason why he can pull it off.
This is a Leo board now

>meanwhile his influence on the franchise he raped for 15 years to death will still be felt and all Bonds from now on will just be aping him instead of the REAL Bond (Connery to Brosnan)
I kneel Craig-sama....take me to the gay bar plz..
I'm 100% sure not being able to cast Bond and not having final cut privileges is what put Nolan off the jov.
The fact this didn't stop Villenevue is based and shows he's willing to work as more of a journeyman

Aside from the gay and lame hag M (which I pretend doesn't exist), Brosnan's movies are the most perfect of them all. They operate on pure anime logic and trappings and that is when the Bond character shines and thrives. If you treat Bond as an anime, it becomes 1000x better. Elektra herself is an anime villainess in the flesh. I miss Brosnan so goddamn much. His Bond was a real hero and a real gentleman. not a government NPC glowie like Craig.
>>212189268https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJlzcwbMEDE

>>212189583David Leitch is mid at best. His Bond film would be the most generic underwhelming action film imaginable and cement the franchise as an irrelevant action series on the same level as something like John Wick.
Aaron Taylor Johnson doesn't look the part, frequently gives shit performances and has never once embodied "Bond". You'd have to neurotic or have a clear agenda to advocate for him playing Bond.
Casting a generic mousy British girl as the main Bond girl misses the entire point of Bond girls which is to be "exotic". Bond goes to a random country, meets a hot native supermodel, bangs her, and then beats the villain. If the main girl is already English then where the fuck's he going? To Scunthorpe?

>>212190183Very based. You're a real on- WAIT what do you think of Craig?
>>212190146>actually Taika Waititi should direct the new Bond film
>>212190203Skyfall might just be the worst one because Spectre tried to do a classic Bond caper and No Time To Die had some good stunts and sequences. Skyfall had neither and was the PEAK of the gloomy Craig era, for sure. Quantum of Solace had tons of gags, a fun plot with an adventurous sense and two great Bond girls. What did Skyfall have? A gorilla girl and a MEH French bitch. Villain? Gay spanish tech guy with melodramatic motiviation and no real depth despite the movie pretending he does.
>>212190213Casino Royale is kino but Skyfall is meh. He's a good actor but not that interesting, only really works in Casino for me. Really shines in action scenes
For me, I will excuse anyone BUT people who like Craig beyond Casino and Quantum. Those are irredeemably stupid secondaries and should be ignored at all times. Funnily enough, for me, Quantum/Casino has the PERFECT Bond tone. They have gags, adventure, fun but also drama, emotion and deep ethos. That's what Bond should be like. If Villeneueve knows this, we're in good hands. But I doubt it since he's a hack who just wants to ape Mendes.
>>212190328based quantum of solace appreciator
In my attempt to make Daniel Craig sick by thinking mean thoughts about him landed me in the hospital due to a fairly damaging seizure. I was in the hospital for like 3 days only thinking a happy thoughts about myself and stealing any sort of medical equipment I could find and I have about two bags full of hospital equipment now. Tonight I am back home and I will hook up all of the hospital tools and start thinking negative thoughts about Daniel Craig again. The 3 days should have rested me and tonight I will use these heartbeat monitors and toilet thing to have extreme negative energy.
>>212190265I loved Casino Royale and even tolerated Quantum but Skyfall is tedious. How do you have 3 movies in a row where he's not the James Bond you know but then at the end he is (until the next one). Then he quits in Spectre and is retired with an ex wife and a kid in No Time to Die.
>>212190313He's FUN and has lots of experience directing action films
>>212190369>tfw Craig is my favourite Bond actor but also my least favourite because of Casino/Quantum and Skyfall/Spectre/NTTD basically being two completely different Bonds played by the same guyI could watch Casino and Quantum over and over but I can't stand a minute of the others. Craig in Quantum was perfect. He was mowing down people, doing acrobatic superhuman feats, fucking girls in the snap of a finger, being cool and stoic as fuck while also cracking some very good quips and jokes. See this:

>>212190313>>212190531We need a third titty monster in this franchise (Bellucci doesn't count since she doesn't get her puppies out in the movie, not even for cleavage).
If I was a producer at amazon I would be trying to secure Sydney Sweeney before we even get Bond.
>>212190328>>212190471I give No Time To Die a pass because it was clear that they were very limited by the previous films' Frankenstein story along with EON mandating that they couldn't do anything too kino (hence why Boyle was fired).
It's a moderately entertaining action film. I definitely wouldn't rank it in the top half of Bond films but I'd include it in a Bond marathon where Skyfall and Spectre I'd rather replace with a 5 minute youtube summation. I like that it tried to give a resolution to all the loose ends in the clusterfuck of a story

>>212193178Yes and no.
Every question about the future of the franchise has the same problem: the fanbase is completely split.
Do you appeal to coomers? Boomers? Normies? Pseduo-cinephiles?
They all want different things. When Skyfall is the highest grossing Bond film of all time, you're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place.
But a big problem is, let's say that we agree that Bond girls have a core involvement in the future of the franchise, what does that mean? Does that mean we prioritise big boobs over acting ability (in which case there are a lot of porn stars who can do it)? Do we take an actress that normies universally agree is hot even if it makes coomers mad (like Zendaya)? Are we okay with casting an inoffensive plain Jane as long as she fulfils the essence of the role plotwise?
Does this mean that Bond can never have character development in terms of his status as a bachelor? What if audiences get bored of that?
>>212193344>>212192882Please get a job or a life. Or anything. Just stop posting.
>>212193178Ana de Armas in NTTD is widely considered to be the only good thing in that movie, so there's hope. Spectre and NTTD had essentially the perfect picks for "hot famous actress" of their respective years. The issue is that yeah, the movies are kinda sexless.

Ella Hunt is very pretty but I do think the Bond girl should not be English, unless she's really really hot.
For me? I'd pick Adria Arjona, just an insanely hot woman, she can do action as well.
>>212193497YOU are the one who doesn't get it. You're saying British girls can't be Bond girls? Are you insane? Some of the best ones have been Britgirls. Anyhow I think she should be cast because she's of a certain acting talent, has the status to be considered a "respected" actress and looks hot.

>>212194555What? Cubby's preference and style was always European hotties. He rarely broke this model.
