This is a thread discussing the future of the James Bond franchise. So, Denis Villeneuve is the director for Bond 26 except he has Dune: Messiah to shoot, edit and release before he's able to start pre-production which means NO NEWS of note for about 2 years. Which also means Bond 26 will release, if it even gets made and this isn't a Danny Boyle 2.0, in 2029-2030. THAT'S 8 TO 9 YEARS SINCE NO TIME TO DIE. Sicario was only good because it had a good script. All the visual artistry and director trickery in the world can't uplift a bad script, everyone knows this. The truth is that we're getting a pretty good movie regardless. Won't be a masterpiece or anything but it's not like Bond is a masterpiece factory.
Will be interesting to see how he works with a studio who won't treat him like an auteur. He won't get final cut privileges and won't have the final say on who to cast as Bond. He'll be treated as a journeyman and that's the way to go

Villeneuve is a safe choice. It's the "worst" only in the sense that we expected Bond to return to something less serious again, which honestly might've been something we worked ourselves into for no reason.
The only true issue he has is that he can't make a sexy movie to save his life (it's the same with Nolan), but even Dune 2 had an overtly sexy scene so I'm willing to be surprised.
We're just going off his filmography so if we get what we expect (Skyfall but better), we'll get a great movie. If he manages to go against type and make a Bond that feels like the classics, then good as well.

Aside from the gay and lame hag M (which I pretend doesn't exist), Brosnan's movies are the most perfect of them all. It's a moderately entertaining action film.
