I hated Ninjago sets because it was one of those trash ideas from Lego that required you to sit through some kids show in order to understand what the set was about. Also 50% of the sets being yet another fucking mech.

I didn't have cable growing up so I only watched it at relatives houses, so the last of it I ever caught was after the snake people arc when they all go to some tournament with a bunch of other ninja people like an invisible man and guy who can run fast. So whenever I saw sets that were them fighting robots or chinese ghosts I got got really confused by them

Bionicle singlehandedly saved Lego by making something appealing to older kids and teenagers that thought bricks were lame and uncool. People dunk on Greg's writing getting dark, edgy and convoluted nowadays, but teenage me ate that shit up right alongside the Cryoshell ads.
Sonic tried doing something similar in the early 2000s, but you can't take a blue cartoon rat seriously the same way you can with robots, so its much easier to make fun of Sonic
