>Don Draper's ''Old Fashioned'' drink typically includes: 2 ounces of rye whiskey (or bourbon), a sugar cube or 1/2 teaspoon of sugar, 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters, and a lemon or orange twist for garnish.
why was such a manly chad drinking such a sugary sweet drink?
because sugary sweet stuff tastes good
Don Draper ordered it, but Dick Whitman drank it
>don draper
>manly chad
What kind of retard are you? Tiktok or video essay?
>>212195577 (OP)old fashioneds dont even taste good
gimme a gin & tonic
he drinks like six during a lunch
that's twelve shots of booze
you need the sugar at that point
>>212195577 (OP)It was a staple whiskey drink at the time and he mostly ordered it at restaurants or bars. It was also considered a more masculine drink, women rarely drank it. Most of the time he just drank rye (Canadian Club) neat or with ice.
>>212195577 (OP)they arent really that sugary desu

>two orders of oysters>minimum of four martinis>two cheesecakes>cigarettes>vomit in the office because you have to take the stairs back upkino fucking episode
>>212195577 (OP)it's not about the drink, he's aura farming by being able to order like 5 or 6 cocktails over a single leisurely visit to the bar with a client or a friend of the business
that would be like a normal working man spending his entire paycheque for the day on booze

HEY /TV/ YOU KNOW I STARTED POSTING WITH YOU ALL OVER TEN YEARS AGO. MAN DID WE HAVE SOME GOOD TIMES. I REMEMBER BACK WHEN THERE WAS MORE CUNNY HERE THAN IN A SHANGHAI ORPHANAGE BUT FUCK ME WASN'T IT FAN.
HEY JANNIE
JANNIE, DON'T YOU RECOGNIZE ME?
cocktails used to be king, especially in a place like NYC where many of them have been invented.
>>212195577 (OP)people mix with coke and thats like 50g of sugar or some shit.
>>212196319throwing a couple pre made types of drink together is not inventing
>>212195577 (OP)The bitters tames it. It's like a sweet and sour drink at that point.
>>212195577 (OP)I ordered an old fashioned as my first drink when I turned 18 because I wanted to be like Don Draper. It was disgusting and I nearly threw up. Ordered a pepsi instead.
>>212195577 (OP)It's not a sweet drink, hence the bitters. It tastes like a job, something you work through to get a desired result.
>>212195577 (OP)An old fashioned should be made with brandy not whiskey. It's also only a drink you have one of and it used to only be boomers drinking them but now it's popular again

>>212196676>An old fashioned should be made with brandy not whiskeyOnly in Midwest shitholes
>>212195577 (OP)I've always found just putting straight sugar into an old fashioned doesn't really dissolve properly, and that making some simple syrup works a lot better for it
>>212196739anon it's a thematic device to show how he turned his wandering and despondence into one last hustle because he is truly a Mad Man

I still hate this place but your all right anon
>>212195577 (OP)Gosh you mean a guy hiding behind a false identity picks a drink based on the name without knowing anything about the drink itself
>when Roger reveals that Don's fake accent occasionally slips and everybody knows he grew up poor and hides it
>>212195577 (OP)A sugar cube and bitters with a twist of orange is the "manly" version of the Old Fashioned, at least by New York standards.
>>212195577 (OP)You wouldnt have alcohol without sugar bud
>>212195683I made myself a rusty nail once. It was really bad. Drambuie should be illegal in most countries.

>>212196383Just have a whisky sour at that rate, mogs any old fashioned I've had.
>>212198469>fake accent occasionally slipsHe said Don drops his g's. That's not a fake accent. Don never puts on an accent, he talks at 19 the same way he does at 39. What he did was learn to speak well. This even pops up with him correcting the janitor kid in season 7.
>>212195958>rye (Canadian Club)I'm a big rye guy, and I never see CC in stores or at restaurants/bars.
>>212198870It’s not rye as I understand it and today would be considered bad. I’ve had it and it was like $15 a bottle and too sweet. They didn’t really have easy access to good liquor back then
>>212199072Thanks. I like Angel's Envy Finished Rye, though some of bottles of that are too sweet. Sazerac is the same every time, so I tend to buy that.
>>212199165Give Sagamore a shot if you come across it.

>>212195577 (OP)They started putting sugar in everything after WWII. There are many theories as to why but they all end with the same conclusion.
>>212196676Your old fashioneds are bizarre, they ask if you want them sweet or sour (sour is also sweet btw).
t. Drank at the bar in Babcock, Wisconsin.
>>212196072This show is entirely an ad for cigarettes in disguise
>>212199165most of the bottom shelf companies, like sazerac, are just dilluting/flavoring food grade ethanol, which is like 30 cents a gallon now.
>>212200128I don't know many food grade ethanol plants that are using rye.

>>212195577 (OP)lol, is that why Sam Morrill loves this drink? It must be. He loves mad man, is a brainlet and thinks that Don is cool.

>>212195577 (OP)The sugar rounds out the flavor profile. Most classic cocktails contain something sweet.
>>212200059The Old fashioned predates jew overtake of the food industry by a long shot
Is this the most overrated show ever? All it has to offer for a plot is affairs
>>212195577 (OP)It’s not sugary, it’s there to even out the bitters or else it tastes like you’re drinking turpentine.

>>212195683>thinks other drinks don't taste good>orders a G & TGin and tonic tastes like someone sprayed perfume in your mouth
For me, it’s a Rye Manhattan with 1/2 oz sherry and 1/2 oz vermouth
>>212198870Because Canadian Club is fucking vile
>>212196080literally me on the left, if normies actually watched mad men I would be mistaken for Don Draper all the time
>>212201071For me it's a tumbler with two fingers of bourbon and topped up with cloudy pressed apple juice. I've heard it referred to as a "Stonewall Jackson"
I like scotch and sodas but each different scotch needs sightly different additives like lemon, honey, ginger, lime, bitters or simple syrup. You need to try different things for every brand and use a very well carbonated soda water too.
>>212196031The key is to muddle it, don't mix it. Lot of sugar will be left after the drink is gone
half a teaspoon of sugar is like 3 grams? A can of coke is 13 times that
>>212202135You should use coarse sugar too, it should create a crust around the bottom of the glass that you then add the ice and pour the whiskey into, just a light stir
>>212196347you’re an idiot and probably an alcoholic
>>212200350He's just a typical brainlet who loves sopranos, mad men, there will be blood and a bunch of other horseshit, because he's a just like you, npc.
>>212200433it's just very slow burn. middle season episodes fucking suck, it only really picks up during the last four episodes. it gets repetitive by season 5 if you're watching it in one go, but it was more enjoyable back when it was airing weekly.
>>212200433It is. Only retards like it
>>212201323I put tonic water in single malt scotch and it tastes like boozy apple juice.
