It was baby's first drama that just came out at the right time as social media was taking off and also it was boosted/astroturfed by Netflix. It was a Z-list show before these two planets aligned. People back then only cared about The Sopranos and The Shield.

Shows can be theatrical at certain moments and I don't know why this is such a goddamn problem. By the way I never cared much for this show and didn't finish it, but there is nothing wrong with this kind of thing unless you are the kind of hyper autistic that there is no help at all for.

It happens really fast on screen. Like less than a second. He didn't stand there and do a jitterbug or shout out a catchphrase. I got tired of fan service bullshit on Breaking Bad and them putting in little things for the internet fandom, but this wasn't that bad. These little things bug me a lot more on rewatch than the first go-through.

I do think this kind of bullshit and the "Science Bitch!" type fan service keep it from being the very best of the best shows like The Sopranos or The Wire, though. They didn't pull cheap stunts like this.

Committing a crime with something even resembling a firearm turns probation into years in prison on the spot. Drug offenses, especially in small amounts, get waved out of court depending on the district. Smart criminals will minimalize risk. I found it strange that in BCS threads everyone would insist that BCS was superior to Breaking Bad, but I think the real reason is Breaking Chads had just checked out of the conversation and once both shows hit their finale and were equally topical, Breaking Chads came out of the woodwork in higher numbers.

Anyway, Breaking Bad is a well written apolitical show from circa 2010, but since 4chud is full of 90's kids who give older old shit an artificial boost and Wire, Shield and Sopranos lay the nigger word on a little thicker, they are funnier to quote in a shitpost.

Breaking Bad took off because it was constantly tense and suspenseful, had a lot of twists and unexpected turns, and actually killed off main characters. A lot of shows in the genre don't do any of these things, let alone all three.

There's a directing and visual style in Breaking Bad, amplified even more in Better Call Saul, that I find very ugly and unpleasant. The script is criticised more commonly but I find it to be one of the worst examples of a failed movie director indulging himself in a tv gig, during a time when "cinematic televsion" was all the rage.
It's "Look, Mom, I'm directing!!" all the way through and it never ever lets up
