It's actually not because we watched a beloved character get fucking gangraped and stabbed to death. You want to make a dark, miserable, gritty misery fest of a movie? Cool! Hell, the first one was that too. The real problem is that it retcons Arthur Fleck. What happened to the dude who decided that his life was a comedy? Did he change his mind? "There is no joker! It was all a fantasy! its just me - Arthur Fleck!"....what?! There WAS NO ARTHUR FLECK. The dudes life was a fucking lie. Joker was supposed to be him taking off the mask. Toss Philips himself said that. The sequel, however, just totally betrays and reverses that. Thats why we feel cheated; it's incompatible with the first one.
