As someone who actually read comics as a kid, superheroes should be unsuspecting people who have a secret identity that they turn into when someone needs help. Once it becomes about stopping the CGI villain from getting the box to turn earth into darkness or whatever I stop caring.

Difference is those comics were still about him saving the city and stopping whatever villain that week, not fighting a battle for some macguffin caused by a decades long revenge plot.

You can have a supervillain without him being a boring doomsday man bent on annihilating the universe. A bank robber who gets superpowers then uses them to rob more banks is more interesting than trying to make the villain some epic threat.

he killed an AU Zod after it was well established he didn't like killing then exiled himself from Earth in guilt. that said there's nothing wrong with Cavillman killing Zod it's that the movie doesn't establish he has some rule against killing at all prior to that. in fact quite the opposite given how he callously punches people through buildings and into gas stations to blow them up seemingly without caring at all so him being so torn up after killing Zod doesn't hit that hard.

Supervillains are boring once you get to large scale nonsense. A scene of a robber holding a gun up to a kid has more dramatic tension than an evil alien saying he's going to spread microbots across the galaxy to kill all life. One is a real tangible danger to a person we can see, the other is some vague threat about with nothing to personally connect to. Supervillains are fine but it should be about the hero saving civilians from the villain, not just stopping the villain because he's le evil mastermind.

Star Wars should be about the space travel only and lasers and the force makes it unintelectual?

>Superman IS A LARGE SCALE
Yes but he's at his best when it's smaller scale. Look at the most iconic and beloved Superman moments from the comics. It's moments like him hugging the suicidal girl on the roof in All Star or telling the kid "thanks my mom made it for me" after a he complimented his outfit in For All Seasons. It's not Superman going into outer space and doing a big laser fight with Darkseid because that shit isn't interesting.

You dont need a large scale superhero for low scale villains
The suicidal girl is recent sappy Superman, not golden age, silver age or bronze age
Allstar Superman was made for adults coping about not being intelectual and not having moved on to books, so they needed a "profound" Superman story
Kids dont want to read about suicidal girls, they want escapism
Fucking hilarious, you "real fans" brag about your knowledge but only bring up post 90s stuff as recomendations
Sappy slice of life Superman, where evey story are supposed to make you cry cause of some hamfisted message, didnt become the norm until Allstar Superman which was released in 2005

You have no idea what the fuck you are taking about. Christianity aspect wasn’t because of fans. It was because of Comic Book Code after some pervert shrink wrote “Seduction of Innocence” claiming comic books was causing juvenile delinquency. It was forced on all comics. Horror comics were banned for being demonic. . Batman turned into goofy Adam West style buffoon. Wasn’t until ‘70s it got lifted. But that is the Superman Silver Age boomers remember because they grew up on that version
