Were these any good? Worth a watch after all these years?
Recently remembered that the Sci-Fi Channel was a thing (fuck off with your SyFy newspeak bullshit fucking 1984 dogshit) and got a MASSIVE fucking itch to rewatch Stargate, tv shows included.
I remember OG SG being kino but were the shows any good? I remember catching a glimpse back in the day but it has been almost two decades now, I don't even have any hair left anymore...

SG1 is an awesome show.
My only regret about it is that I did not see it when it first aired. I don't know why I never saw it way back then.
But it's great. Atlantis is a good spin off too.

They fucked up the early seasons by having the digital effects practically hardcoded into it so they couldn't redo them easily. It gets better later on.
Keep in mind it was done for tv back when the releases were still 480p levels of resolution.

>Were these any good? Worth a watch after all these years?

I watched the movie and am now late in season 1 of SG1. It's...not very good. It's not offensive, but I think at least in modern contexts it's just too quaint, short, and episodic to really accomplish great things. But I also think that contextually, that's just what shows were like in the 90s. They were low-budget, they were monster/problem-of-the-week, and they were hammy and overacted and campy.

If that is your thing, and it can be, then it's ok. The premise itself is a little ham-handed in the "Every culture everywhere was invented by aliums and the universe is just full of humans living in various tribal/medieval cultural stasis moments." is ok on paper but in practice just means that every episode takes place in period-fantasy costumes in the woods of Canada.

I don't know, it's ok? Not amazing, you're not going to remember any of the events of it, but it's ok noise.

While that is a point I agree with as well, they could've easily handwaved it with some gate based technology that translates for you and even made it a plot point in several interesting ways.
It would've easily even covered why it didn't work in the movie because the gate was buried so long ago and they have to update it in some fashion.

Movie is great. SG1 is meh. Just lots of wilderness in very earth-like places with very much human people in ye olde attire which I guess makes them alien. But the acting is usually good so if you can suspend your disbelief a little bit then you should be able to tough it out. Atlantis was utter dog shit and whoever made that should be fucking shot.

SG-1 finds it's stride in season 2, season 1 is not very good or very indicative. Season 2 gives a good idea what the show is like.

Not to do the whole BMW in middle earth argument, but the ability to connect and communicate with aliens is a pretty big staple of the entire genre of scifi and saves the audience a lot of faffing around. Not every franchise can have Universal Translators and Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra

They pretty much go through every sci-fi trope possible, I can't even think of a kidnap episode.
It's been years since I did a rewatch but there's some great tv in there.
> Stargate Command receives an incoming transmission, accompanied by an SG-1 IDC, and through the gate comes a small, crumpled paper note. Written on it, in Colonel O'Neill's handwriting (and unknowingly to them as of then, spots of his blood), is a simple message: "UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES GO TO P4C-970. COLONEL JACK O'NEILL". Not wanting to take any chances, General Hammond orders P4C-970 be locked out of the dialing computer immediately to prevent the planet from ever being contacted.

Stargate SG-1 used to run on channel 6 in my country every weekday. I would watch as often as I could, they did multiple reruns as well, so I've seen most episodes but probably missed a few. They also showed Atlantis on Fridays, a long with some other sci-fi shows like Eureka. Really good times. The shows are definitely worth watching.

SGU took too long to get good, but I have a real affinity for Rush just being so right at the same time as being an asshole.

I also watched the first episode of Dark Matter, do you think that show is any good? I'm inclined to skip it.

One of my favourite moments in the show was when Rush remotely sealed Brody in the stasis pods to make Eli think he'd done it himself by accident. Robert Carlyle was so good at playing a ruthless and sneaky pragmatist.

jewish writers wanted to blood sacrifice a goy to boost their rating.

beckett was killed off to remind the goy actors who was in charge of the franchise since everyone in atlantis was enjoying too much success..

tj's baby was just more jewish blood libel by the schitzo writer that couldnt stop shitting on christians because of his uncontrolable hatred for amalek.

>why medical personal

because they are fan favorites but not brand holders. they are loved but not core to the show's dynamic. its easier to kill off side characters for cheap drama and rating boosts than a mc
