Does /tv/ fuck with this movie? Does it crack the top 5 for Coen bros movies?

It's a great film but I've never felt the urge to rewatch it in the same way as the rest of the Coen brothers filmography

kino movie but i've always hated the way it looks. like almost glossy or blurry at times. was that just a filter? reminded me of early 2000s Spielberg

I guess the Academy Awards were contemplating allowing this song to be nominated for Best Original Song but finally agreed that it was too derivative of real songs

Yep, thatโ€™s sums up my feelings too.

Coenโ€™s make awesome films. Some are better (or worse) than others, but theyโ€™re all great.

It was alright. I love folk music and Townes Van Zandt but wasn't really familiar with the Coen Brothers before this. Carey Mulligan a cute.

Coen Brothers movies are pretentious overrated art house trash. Something boring people hype up to feel like they're sophisticated.

It's not top 5. It's very good but it feels a little lifeless compared to their best work. I guess you could say "that's the point" but I don't think that's it, I think they were sorta just running out of steam towards the end of their run. A Serious Man was their last full-on great film, imo, although one or two segments in Buster Scruggs were great too

I was thinking this was actually the high water mark of race relations in USA. Think about it:
>Set in The South
>One black character
>Nigger said *many* times
>Whites aren't depicted as uniformly, cartoonishly evil despite taking place during Segregation
>Immense success and even inspires a revival of Old-Time music

it's an okay film, good acting great soundtrack but it's hampered by it's lack of a real story, the coens were huffing their own farts a little too hard and thought they could just string a series of scenes together and it'd be compelling, to their credit they were almost right.

Barton Fink becomes so much better when you read that they were just trying to annoy filmbros because they had writer's block while making Miller's Crossing

Normally it's Ladykillers or Intolerable Cruelty but the the correct answer is Intolerable Cruelty. They still aren't absolutely terrible, but feel like Ethan's new movies.

you need to have seen enough golden age of hollywood movies to care about the references, and enjoy that its ironically presenting everything as idealized.
