It's the pretzel episode. Gil is basically an ongoing reference to Jack Lemmon's character in Glengarry Glen Ross (albeit a more schlubby and harmless version), a stageplay-turned-movie about fast-talking wheeling and dealing salesmen who are constantly struggling to keep afloat.

There's 3 11/10 jokes in that minute training video alone:
-The pretzel guy having taped himself sitting down at the desk and still bothering to do the "oh hi there" gag.
-The pretzel guy earnestly laughing, for like 5 whole seconds, about the time the time he got "pretzel fever" and then describes what sounds like chron's or IBS.
-The millipedes. Specifically him being disappointed that even the bag of flour he got to do the fucking training video on still had millipedes.

Gil was a decent reoccurring side character but rather one-note and boring compared to the dynamic Lionel Hutz. Different types of characters, but shades of similarities. I don’t think it’s far off to say Gil was an attempt to partially fill the shoes of Phil Hartman’s characters, though obviously very LARGE shoes to fill, so to speak. Really, when I see Gil in an episodes I know I’m past the prime seasons and Phil Hartman had died.
