Same production team and art director vs different production teams, art directors, etc
not the same equivalent
People get angry when it's called the CalArts style but it's true
All of these artists in the animation industry now have CalArt in their styles. It's in the industry's DNA.
They were taught by people with the same style, they ape that style, the cycle repeats.

American animation has been lame as shit for decades, this is even worse but even in the 2000's shit like Shark Tale or Over the Hedge were all awful garbage.
Anime that animates at 2fps is better because at least the art is good and they can do nice cinematography

No fuck you. You little piece of shit. The animation that happened on cartoon Network. All the shows look different during the '90s. The same could be said for most of the shows on Nickelodeon you're going to tell me that invader Zim looks the same as fairly OddParents or SpongeBob. You're a fucking moron. You're going to tell me that fucking dexters laboratory looks the same as Johnny. Bravo and Ed Edd and Eddie look the same or any of the shows. From what a cartoon that literally are different animators doing different animating styles. Cow and chicken looks nothing like anything doug has a unique look to it, The Rugrats had multiple different versions of animations that they used with it looking extremely crude early on and while we're talking about things that looked extremely crude early on South Park was another cartoon of the time which was originally used as cardboard cutouts for like an episode and then that animation looked unique and different. The Simpsons looked unique and different until they decided to make Futurama and make them look the same as the people from fucking Simpsons. It's more along the lines of lazy companies like Fox being like well, we could make things look a specific way or I can make The Simpsons and then I can make the Futurama version of The Simpsons and then on Netflix one day in the future 20 years down the road I'll make the d&d version of Futurama for nerds that looks like fucking The Simpsons. Same thing with family Guy and the American Dad show and the Cleveland show that's lazy shit. But at the same time they do not look like The Simpsons and they do not look like King of the Hill. You're post is obvious bait or all you do is watch Japanese animation from a fucking time period where everything look the same

It's a retarded equivalency. Who gives a shit if a lot of anime looked the same depending on the time period? So that absolves American animators of all the things that people hate about present day animation?

Plus if you wanted to pivot the conversation to anime so badly you could've made your own faggy thread.

The Steven Universe and Turning Red creators aren't even from Calarts, they came from deviantart and other websites
The real catalyst for all this shit happening today was Penn Ward from Adventure Time inviting all these internet and indie comic artists to work on Adventure time. It made the standards drop like a rock since all these people could bypass traditional routes into work. They have styles based on the seattle comic scene and bad anime fanart

After Disney burned their hands with deviating from their formula and ultimately sinking with Princess and the Frog the age of animated dogshit began.

>These are made for babies.
Actually the non-zombified, non-Millennial activism version of Pixar from the late 90s/early 2000s typically made animated films for the entire family. Says more about the current state of Pixar.
>Stop watching stuff for kids.
People are generally forced to see previews and adverts for this slop because Disney funnels big money into marketing. Seeing the moonfaced beanmouth chink bitch from Seeing Red told me enough, I didn't need to watch it.

You guys really think Luca was good?
All faggotry aside, even the jerky animation seemed like low-effort trash designed to keep production costs low.

idk why but I simply don't want to watch anything cal arts. And this was before I knew "cal arts" was a thing. It's repulsive on some instinctual level.

All CGI is ugly slop. Shit like Shrek is how we got where we are today. Anti-beauty, anti-tradition, ugly, weird, sarcastic slop for children and man children.

Antz and Shrek were the first movies by the Palo Alto division of DreamWorks (which moved to Redwood City not long after finishing Shrek). It's true that Antz shows its age, but Shrek still looks really good.

Honestly the thing I hate the most is how all these faces sort of blur into each other, you remember the style but not any particular character drawn in it

It's like the gay western equivalent of generic anime girl faces

Shark Tale is the first CGI movie by the Glendale division of DreamWorks. That is the division responsible for the 2D movies (Prince of Egypt, Road to El Dorado, Spirit, Sinbad)

It makes perfect sense that they switched to CGI, because their only successful 2D movie was Prince of Egypt. They lost money with the others.

They had to come up with easy to animate designs that only got more detailed over the years because tech improved. The pixar guys have solved every technical problem in the book years ago and still opt to make their characters ugly.

Spirit and Sinbad were only finished because they were too far in production to be cancelled. DreamWorks already knew that CGI was their future after Shrek.
