It always got under my skin. Stuff like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, etc, there's a level of separation because it's so fantastical. FD is more plausible. Obviously not the whole death making Rube Goldberg machines, but people being torn up and killed in horrible accidents is terrifying.

Final Destination movies aren't about fear, they're about a visceral reaction to drawn out, often very cruel and miserable deaths, so I really don't count them as horror, they're very clearly suspense films.
BTW, the first movie has some pretty iconic deaths like Billy having his head cut in half and the teacher walking around the whole house with her neck gushing blood but most are actually pretty meh like Todd being choked by the clothesline and the cheerleader chick being hit by a bus, later movies got much more creative.

They're more similar to Saw in that respect. Although they thus suffer the same affliction in which the deaths need to get increasingly elaborate to the point of becoming rube goldberg contraptions

The 4th was pretty low quality because the series was going direct t DVD so the script and casting were cheap as shit and the better scenes like the escalator death were reshoots from after it was decided the movie was getting a theatrical release after all.
5 and 6 increase in quality back to the level of 1, 2 and 3.

It was a rejected script for a single episode that got reworked as its own thing.
Many projects start out this way, like Scooby Doo on Zombie Island being a pastiche of several unfinished and cancelled Hannah Barbera projects.

lol no it wasnt, the intro sequence creates some tension but it quickly becomes slapstick with the comedic chain reactions resulting in the deaths.
Which of course got more and more absurd as the franchise moved on.

I haven't seen Bloodlines but Youtube served me up literally all of the death scenes and I noticed a pattern of
>Character stands dumbly in the danger zone like its safe now and they're going to be alright
>The active disaster pulls off some extra twist to finish them off

Do the other films do this much

>Billy having his head cut in half
One of the best deaths because it was so quick and sudden. Just graphic enough without lingering into the gratuitous nature found in other later deaths. The ones of the cars plowing into the victims usually felt the same.

That's his problem, he's typecast as that.
Final Destination was his chance to break out of that mold and it didn't work, he got sucked into Dude, Evolution and American pie 2 then it was over.
