If you're advocating for a war against a country you should at least have some idea of the population size, ethnic make up and geography. It's your responsibility as a politican to simple facts about the place you want to send your countries troops to fight and possibly die in. Cruz is just a symptom of a larger problem that is best exemplified by how disastrous the Iraq and Afghanistan war went. Politicians with little to no knowledge of the places they advocated war in were later making policy decisions that went nowhere because they went counter to what would work for the native populations. I.e. we could have won Afghanistan if instead of building schools for little girls and exporting globo homo we worked to build better functioning agricultural infrastructure for the Afghans.
