I keep hearing Rebirth is the JPIII of the World films.
How do they stack up?

Jp3 has a really weird atmosphere. Feels smaller and kind of forgotten when you watch it. The majesty from the first film is gone, but it almost makes it a weird kind of kino

It's basically a hybrid remake of Jurassic Park 2 and 3, cribs quite a lot of scenes and ideas from those two. Its better than Dominion, and I would possibly even say Fallen Kingdom, but it still pretty far from having a full tank of gas. I love dinosaurs, I love Jurassic Park, but I'm ok with this franchise being done at this point. It just doesn't have anymore ideas and nowhere else to go with the premise that isn't profoundly stupid.

I just saw it, here's my take with minor spoilers
The good:
>closest in similarity to JP3 and the first half of JW2
>the mutant dinosaurs only show up towards the end and not for long
>world building was cool, especially the set where they introduce the black smuggling guy
>aside from the cgi, the locations look good
>get to see a good variety of dinosaurs and nondinosaurs
>action scenes were decent to good
>none of the characters are insufferable, even the weed beaner isn't that bad
>cute French tomboy
>spinosaurus doesn't get cucked
>trex doesn't get wanked off the entire movie
The bad:
>everything is cgi
>the plot makes zero sense if you passed biology in elementary school
>they keep trying to push the unbelievable narrative that people got bored of dinosaurs being alive again
>the villain really can't even be called a villain
>dinosaurs the size of, or larger than, an elephant constantly sneak up on people or literally teleport
>the mutant dinosaurs are retarded, as we all predicted. They leave the impression of a wet fart and are completely unnecessary for the movie
>50 different "remember this from the other movies?"
>cute French tomboy gets eaten early into the movie
>most of the dinosaurs act like monsters or fairy tale creatures rather than animals
>fucking marvel tier quips every other scene
The undefined:
>weird product placement, especially for snickers
>vorefags get something to talk about for another 10 years
>Scarlett Johansson isn't bad but isn't really good either
Overall it's a good JW movie, another bad JP movie, and a decent movie in general. I was expecting complete dogshit, so I was pleasantly surprised. I'd put the ranking as
JP>TLW>>JP3>>>>>JW=Rebirth>>>>>JW2>>>>>>>>>>>>>JW3
I'd rather they'd stop beating the dead horse of this tarnished franchise, but if they're going to keep making movies than this at least gives me some hope of not massacring the JP legacy

Saw it for my second go round tonight, it hammered home how much more I *like* dominion despite it being an objectively worse, messier film.

Rebirth is pretty well made with, ultimately, a handful of grievances(no animatronics, scarjo is meh, "villain" plot is such forced unnecessary eye rolling stupid garbage, retcon and killing most dinos is retarded), but man it plays it so safe. It's just a greatest hits of Jurassic films and really deliberately trying to ape the original film more than anything, mixed in with some obvious key elements from other classic Spielberg movies.

Look at dominion and how it just fucking went for it. I mean it is a balls to the wall crazy fucking movie, the literal most expensive movie ever made, and despite an entire studio obviously breathing down their neck and it being filmed right after covid and deciding to keep 99% of the cast alive except for the bad guy, it's one hell of a risk taking movie.
The plots are totally new. Half of it barely involves dinosaurs and focuses on other elements of genetic research and cloning. Even the original cast has a totally new plotline. There is fan service, yes, but not much of it is through direct callbacks. Some of the action sequences are some of the best dinosaur action put to film and not based on any scenes from earlier movies.
Not all of it's good, some of its straight out bad, buts it's big and ambitious and swung for the fences. I don't understand all the hate, especially compared to a mostly safe nostalgia wank retread like rebirth, that just tries to do the same stuff over but does an acceptable job with it.

the strong dinosaur scenes make you forge that some parts of the movie movie plain suck. I enjoy that it's a "basic" plot, but if you start to piece together what you watched it becomes worse. Yeah the mutants barely appear but every scene with them is so retarded. The incident happened because of a fucking snickers bar?, how did the D-Rex survive without people knowing it existed all these years? Why was there an incident in the Pre JW movie time? Misrani would not have carried on. The D-Rex grabbing the helicopter like a Kaiju? Ugh.Why do they need DNA from an animal that's alive?
Characters are decent and the dino action is great, that's what saves the movie from questioning all the iffy parts.

I think the only thing being similar to LW and JP3 is the abandoned island. But the story is about as original as it can get. There's barely any connection to the World movies except for the aftermath of Dinosaurs roaming the planet.

It was pretty well done and surprisingly good. Dare I say in the top 3 of the franchise.

It's similar to JP3 because its mostly just a bunch of dino attack/action scenes with a plot that barely matters and lore that is extremely vague and is going to make fanboys write autistic headcannon essays for the next 20 years.

As a fanboy the only one I truly dislike is Dominion. 3 and Rebirth are pretty much a coinflip, right now I'd say I like JP3 more because of the animatronics but it very well could just be nostalgia talking.

JP3 is the better film simply because of all the problems that plagued production.

JP3 had its script thrown out a month before filming, but theyโ€™d already hired the cast and produced all the animatronics and sets, so they basically made up the script as they went along - having to come up with SOMETHING that was coherent while using the actors they hired and the sets and animatronics they already made. That in mind, they did a good job. They also ran out of money at the end, which is why the film basically just ends and has no real climactic scene - it was supposed to be a helicopter coming to pick them up on the beach and the Pterosaurs arriving to fuck it up.

All that in mind, I appreciate JP3 more and knowing that it was managed to be salvaged into something vs Rebirth (which had no problems in production and was what the studio wanted from the get go) means JP3 gets extra points.

(That and the Spino fucking up the plane is a great set piece and I love how much of it is practical.)

Spino had armored scutes on its neck.
T. rex had a bad grip that Spino wiggled out of by thrashing about.
It's never established that T. rex has a huge bite force in these films.
In fact, it's SHOWN that the T. rex can't even kill a Gallimimus, a Velociraptor, or even a human in one bite. Even if you wanted to get paleoautistic about it, there's evidence of dinosaurs surviving T. rex bites, so you can't hide behind non-criticisms of it being "inaccurate."
They're just giant frog monster cooked up in a lab to be whatever the script needs them to be, killing each other over a territorial dispute at the end of the day.
It's time to get over it, anon. It's been 24 years.

JP 3 is far better
the new one is just Anaconda hunt for the blood orchids with dinosaurs
all the good scenes are in the trailer
the D-rex gets like 3-4 minutes of screentime
and just slowly moves while "hunting" the humans
it's boring to watch
the mutadonts were boring and did nothing
oh and the D-rex fluctuates in size
sometimes it's t-rex size others it's kaiju sized like when grabs the helicopter
the dialogue is also awful
the mosasaurus scenes and the raft sequence were the best parts of the film
music was good

>"Big" and "mass" are distinct concepts, though they are often related. Mass refers to the amount of matter in an object, while "big" is a more general term describing size or volume. An object can be big without having a large mass (like a balloon filled with air) and vice versa (like a black hole)

I can't believe all the hate Dominion gets. Despite its stupid parts the entire Malta sequence alone is terrific and a great example of what this franchise could be doing if only they get away from dinos on an island. Also has the best sfx since the original JP/TLW.

Id place Rebirth in the middle of the pack. It's pretty solid, but it also feels like the Fargo TV show version of Jurassic park- it's basically a nostalgic conglomeration of Spielberg's greatest hits.

NTA but my biggest issue with Dominion is the lack of deaths. I have many of the same criticisms everyone else does but enjoy Malta and most of the dinos, and the more Bourne elements you speak of.

I like that it's largely new stuff, and not just the same movie for the 5th or 6th time like Rebirth- which is solid enough, but shouldn't it be? They've got plenty of practice at this point. I hate when people say "just stop with these movies what else can they do at this point?" Well move them off an isolated island and see dinosaurs in the world for one. The Jurassic "World" setup was ripe for new ideas and it pisses me off that Rebirth basically retcons it out of existence after it only being around for half a movie.

"Dinosaurs in the world" from a Jurassic Park standpoint isn't good at all, conceptually or objectively. It's subliminal globalism advocacy.
Besides, The Lost World did everything anybody wanted to see with the concept and there's nothing else worth doing. You got your T. rex rampage.
All you can do now is blame Spielberg for blowing his load too early back in 1997 because he was scared he was gonna get mogged by Godzilla 98 of all things.

A quick dinosaur rampage in a city that's never seen a living dinosaur before is very different from a fully integrated dinosaur society which is a near limitless setup for new potential stories. Yeah this is the real issue. I know Dominion is wildly hated and I don't mind that basically everyone but me feels that way- I get some enjoyment out of it. But I really hate that they had an open slate for new ideas in a JP movie and have squandered it and returned, perhaps forever, to isolated dinos on an island incidents. I love that movie, I do. But we need new storylines and they went out of their way to retcon things back to the same setup as always.

Also if all you got out of JP is "dinosaurs and man can't coexist because the dinosaurs are niggers" then you're an absolute retard. "Life finds a way" is the theme of the films and crichton was all about the hubris of man leading to wild, potentially world altering or ending scenarios.
If you can't imagine a plotline that branches away from "dinosaurs on an island" it means you're a dull retard, not that the concept doesn't have any juice.

It's been 30 years and not a single fuckers in-universe is a expert at hunting dinosaurs? Why would you use a liquid against a sea creature and not harpoons or sonic weapons. At least in the previous movie there was always a unprepared or unknown element against the humans but what the excuse now

It doesn't add to anything. It's just putting a random human clone in the movie to have a human clone. Literally nothing about her being a clone has any bearing on the plot. You could take away any mention of her being a clone out of the movie and nothing changes.
It's not done well at all, the "payoff" is less than half-assed and her inclusion is nothing more than a retarded vehicle to make dinosaurs magically appear on the mainland. There's no message to her character. There's no consequences for her being a clone.
It's shallow slop that retards like you ate up because you're so starved for good writing and you don't even know it that you'll take anything out of desperation and call it kino.

>And like the movie asks if the dinosaur shouldn't exist anymore then should cloned human?
Kind of dumb since 99% of people treat human life different than animals by virtue of them being human. The audience is going to say the cloned human should exist because they're a human, simple as.

I still don't get how people can like the first JW
What a fucking waste of potential, only salvaged by the babysitter being vored because it was actually something unexpected that hadn't happened in the franchise before
the kids are annoying especially the autismo, the CEO character is the biggest retard in the franchise, the whole dinos for military plot was at least 15 years too late what with the existence of drones already, the rampage scene is wasted since it's just flying dinos, raptor training is retarded, I can go on
Better than Dominion for sure which has the most mind boggling ideas in existence for a script that felt more like a boomer humiliation ritual
