>>212288988>it's got a unique sensibility to its humorI was trying to articulate this to a friend awhile back and I couldn't quite put my finger on it exactly, but I think I know what that humor is now. I think it's the willingness to mine the mundane silly little jokes we make in every day life that we deep down know are too silly to really share with people, or conversely too dark. Stuff like the silly pet names or baby talk we come up with. Like that whole maybe-baby bit, or saying someone's name in a funny way, like Stoive. And on the flip side there's those weird bits like Francine feeding Hayley chocolate or maybe it's poop. But no it's chocolate. Or anytime Stan just overshares or thinks about murdering anyone or even himself. These things aren't all necessarily "taboo" subjects, they're more just weird half-formed concepts where if you tried to bring them up in actual conversation people would just look at you like, "wtf?" And before anyone writes off what I'm saying as "stoner" humor, I gotta mention I don't even touch the stuff, and what I specifically think of when I think of this humor is a friend of mine playing with his cat. Grown man just playing with her rubbing her belly, forgot I was there. Out of nowhere in real high voice he just starts singing her name, Kitty Kelly. Just a real earnest silly moment, but when he noticed I was there he just said "shut up" and pretended like nothing happened. Just those kind of private little moments that everyone thinks are weird but at the same time everyone has them, I think that's what makes the show and the characters endearing and that extra bit more hilarious.
