The first 5 seasons are kino. After that production moves from Canada to California and it feels sort of like a different show. Still kinda fun but I feel like it peaks those first 5 seasons.

It was supposed to end after season 5 to lead into the movie, but then Fox kept it going so they just rebooted the mythos and carried on. Then in season 7 there was a conscious push from the writers to wrap things up for a potential finale-for-real-this-time, but Fox cockblocked them again.

I started watching this show the other day and in the first episode Scully goes to Mulder's room and breaks down crying like she's emotionally weak over some mosquito bites and Fox is the big strong man to save her it's totally sexist and would never fly in this day and age. This show is seriously dated on the verge of being unwatchable.

that sounds right. the show really started to meander after the movie, and the monster of the week episodes weren't good any more. fwiw, my buddies who watched the whole thing swear up and down that robert patrick does an admirable job for a guy coming into a sinking ship.
