I think what made Nolan a hack here was not using cgi for the trinity explosion, where it was obviously needed. CGI’s inherit presence is independent of a films quality. Cameron isn’t a pussy and embraces cgi.

Visiting the Hiroshima memorial and museum, plus the infamous war shrine, in Japan was a strange experience. There was a lot of missing history and denial, like pretty much every aggressive and atrocious act they committed, but they also barely seemed to acknowledge their own peoples suffering. The whole museum, including a talk from a nuke survivor, was just about how nukes are bad. They didn't acknowledge anyone else's suffering but neither did they acknowledge their own. The war shrine was comical with it being a Japanese version of /pol/ where they commemorate and celebrate their military personnel, including all their war criminals.
