Honestly, there is a weird contrast between Borat in the Ali G show and in the movie.

In the show, Borat’s purpose is that he is an ESL speaker from some unknown country, so people let their guard down and/or forgive his silliness because, fundamentally, Borat is a polite, nice man from an unknown country with average English.

Then, for some reason, the movie starts by portraying Kazakhstan as overly poor for dumb jokes.
