unlike others i never cared about jerkass homer in the show because everything was comedic and low stakes but he unironically kinda ruined the movie for me, he felt like such an asshole and it didn't feel good to see him win at the end

It really didn’t. The Simpsons was over by the time the movie came out. If anything this was the death nell

The Simpsons, to its core fans who were there from the beginning, died ~10th season, fully dead at the end of season 11, where the extremely unfunny "Behind the laughter" sealed it. The movie was released during the 18th season.
TL;DR
Simpsons had been dead 7 years when the movie released.

Millennial here - that was the summer before 12th grade for me. Obviously I grew up loving The Simpsons and was somewhat excited about the prospect of a full length feature, but the show had already run its course. People were talking about the show being washed even before that point.

It was kinda fun with all the promotional stuff with 7/11 and whatever. I actually remembered even kind of enjoying the movie when I saw it...

But I tried rewatching it just a few weeks ago, and it's truly awful. It just has so little of the charm found in those classic episodes, feels like crappy fan fiction. The pacing is all wrong, the animation looks weird, even Homer's voice sounds phoned-in. It's cheeks.

But yeah, somehow they did manage to make "Spiderpig" happen for a brief moment in 2007.

Apparently zoomers need a millennial on YouTube to explain to them that the funniest moment by a mile was the town scratching Homer’s head out of spite:

Let's focus on something that goes deeper than The Simpsons.

2007 was a different time. I remember "Thats So Raven" had an episode where Cory and his friend were playing with realistic lightsabers.
"Hoodwinked 2" had a giant spiderweb save the characters from death falling at a great height.

We used to have a popular culture that everything circulated and everyone got excited for. You couldn't have a capeshit reference or a starshit reference in an unrelated movie today.

I've never seen casablanca but it seemed like every cartoon had a scene where a guy stands by an airplane and tells a girl she'll regret. Maybe not tomorrow or the next day. And the episode ends with fin.

We live in an era of excessive choice. A lot of the stuff from bygone eras when people had less choice wasn’t any better than the trash we have today, it was just more widely viewed and became part of the collective consciousness. The collective consciousness today is some sort of adhd afflicted narcissistic schizophrenic. It’s just how she do

Not me it didn't, that movie was meh, best part was Grand Theft Walrus simply because of how unexpected it was.

Simpsons I think ended with S13, nothing from that point onwards was any good.
