Grief is fucked, the pre-grief era of your life is truly bliss. Now imagine parents who lose young children and shit. They keep their rooms exactly the same, come in there smelling clothes every day, sit alone and talk to themselves pretending the child is still there.

monk is supposed to be cringe, it's supposed to be uncomfortable to watch him, you're supposed to get tired just like everyone around him gets tired of it.
i liked psych more for entertainment but monk was heartfelt.

that's actually good to hear, despite it being a fictional character.

Him being useless at everything except being a detective gets old fast, they even cocktease the audience with an episode where he gets better but that happens to be around the same time he gets gaslit by a woman pretending to be his wife and his brain reverts back to retard mode. Stottlemeyer and Randy are better characters anyway

It was such a perfect casting too. The chilnet baby face makes it, and the suits so oversized it looks like a 8 year old wearing his dad's clothes.

ok that's fair but that's the whole gimmick of the show, pick any show ever and you can find an equivalent annoying gimmick i bet, or at least i can.

>>212309770
isn't that how all these types of shows go though? they can't make it too complex because then they can't guarantee that the audience gets it

i may be going to bat for monk too hard here, i'm not actually a fan i just watched it as a kid! please don't shit on my childhood!

I refuse to watch the movie because it undid all the progress from the series.
They sprinkle it through out the show but Monk losing his wife truly broke him. He overcame his OCD and other mental issues because he wanted to be a good husband. With her gone he lost motivation to function normally.
And theme of grieve and never getting to that stage of acceptance is real for a lot of people and nightmarish.

Sharona was a cunt and her tough approach to Monk never worked.
Natalie was understanding and took more clever approaches to get him to step out of his comfortzone.
Also Benji was a little shit. Julie was better.

No they wrapped up the show very well in the last two seasons.
I wouldn't say he was "cure" but he was able to be function normally like he did when he was with Trudy.
His personality was a lot more outgoing as well.
Again this is why I didn't watch the movie once I learn they were going to undo everything just to make him a germaphobe again to capitalize on a Covid plot.

I actually just got done watching the entire season over the past month and a half, and I can't believe how much I enjoyed it. It wasn't the show I was expecting, often being more creative than I'd ever assume. Monk not always being pitiable but sometimes a complete asshole made him more interesting.

>Stottlemeyer and Randy are better characters anyway
Stottlemeyer was easily my favorite character. I was surprised by his and Monk's relationship. I thought he would just be "the cop who has to put up with Monk" and was pleasantly surprised by their friendship.

>>212311367
I didn't think it was bad. I don't think they needed to make it at all, though. Leaving it up to you to imagine the life he had with Molly was definitely better. They do up the stakes with his mental regression so it's not just "Monk thinks the world is icky again!" at least.

>>212311037

>>212312651
No, Poirot is focused on order and symmetry. Has a secretary (Sharona), a chefinspector as friend ( Jeb = Stottlemeyer), a naive friends (Hastings = Randy).
Thats the groundwork for Monk.

Ok. Than you just go by visuals or knowledge from the literature. But the BBC series clearly shows how Poirot is very clean, is arranging glasses or flowers to make it symmetric. I can clearly see that someone watched this and got indpired to create Monk.
