Obviously they couldn't have known since they were presumably writing/filming it before covid, but with hindsight it's extremely funny that it ends up with protesters demanding the FDA "free the vaccine" and demanding that they can all get it.

It isn't that well-written to be honest.
What makes it exceptional is the cinematography and sound design.
Legitimately every shot in this looks like a painting, very strong use of colors and shot composition.

Theyโ€™re going to poison you and theyโ€™re going to have you cheering for it, is the point there. The bbc canโ€™t show something like this because theyโ€™re propaganda first, entertainment second. They need to push the idea that when they overstep they will suffer consequences. It keeps (you) passive.

Because David Fincher was prepping it, they had sets and were casting when HBO refused to budget him 100 million instead of 90, so he left HBO back to Netflix where his career died. The Amazon remake was directed by Fincher's screenwriter who also wrote the book Gone Girl. She had never ran a show before.

Fincher said before he started that he was a huge fan of the UK version and that he believes in a lot of conspiracy theories. We were robbed of a world where his HBO Utopia was a huge hit seen by millions, and then the plandemic would have happened. It's one of the greatest "what ifs" ever. Instead we got Mank and Squid Game America.

Yes, that's why Amazon buried it. There was no press about it either even though it had an early DEI cast, even with the covid synchronicity. Had the show been pro-vax it would have been marketed heavily.

First I will say this is so much better than the remake. Still has issues with characteristic stupidity in loads of plot movements, but a lot less than some other shows. I find it fascinating that this and the remake are being showcased at this time in world history. A wise person might take notice and view world events with greater scrutiny at this time. Enjoyed it though. Google the Georgia Guidestones after you watch this and you might get a bit of a jolt.

Flynn being involved was one of the reasons I watched the remake. She wasn't showrunner, but she did write Sharp Objects, which like Gone Girl was an adaptation of one of her books, and I quite liked that one. Jessica Rothe was another reason I wanted to watch the show but her character died 2 episodes in, so oops.

This show is amazing for the first 50 minutes before Fiona Oshaunessy appears. She is so out of step with the production, the pace, the dialogue, the lighting, the music - like she does not get she is part of an ensemble. Just - a bad actress for this show. She might be decent elsewhere, but she's the Jar Jar Binks of this Star Wars.

S1 is pure intravenous kino. The pace is hectic throughout, and even minor characters are memorable.

One thing I liked (that was apparently lacking in the Ameriblob version) was the Jessica wasn't just
>le wasteland girlboss badass
but had a bit more complexity. Like when she's in the hotel room with Grant, it strays dangerously close to grooming (dressing him up, giving him alcohol), before she suddenly realises she could just torture the information out of him. Then when he cries for his mum, she cuddles him like a mother. i.e. her maternal instinct is still there, but kind of misfiring.

I'd agree with this, the whole point is that she's out of place with normal society

This is partly why S2 didn't work imo, the concept of the show works fine when everyone is sprinting around trying to find Mr Rabbit (as real life is suspended), but when the pace slows down it gets less fun

Did that happen in the American version aswell? I can't remember. She's well written because at first you think she's like a badass Sarah Connor character who was never just a "normal kid" and "normal person", and is just some kind of action hero in a grand conspiracy story, but then turns out that those things actually just makes her a completely stunted person who doesn't know how to act human (again, because she never got raised to be someone normal).

They always say it's about to run out but it never does, it's like a doomsday prophecy. They told me in elementary school the US coastal cities would be covered in water by 2014 and we'd have to fight wars over fresh water by 2020. It's all a big scam. Research the climate gate I and II scandals. Global warming scientists regularly just fudge the data and make shit up. Oh yeah, the polar bear population is booming like never before.

The truth about oil is the earth is constantly making more of it faster than the rate we consume it. It's basically infinite but oil companies act like it's finite so they can charge more.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency had similar vibes to this. What is this genre called of low budget British shows that hit above their weight due to good writing and interesting premises?

Most people think that the amount of oil being pulled out of the ground is decreasing when the production bottleneck has been refining capacity for a long time now, since the 90s at least. Scarcity makes the product worth more.

It's completely retarded that everyone accepts there was an ice age that warmed up and went away but somehow any temperature change on the planet can only be caused by humans and carbon. Those mammoths must have been driving a lot of SUVs

First series is excllently written but the second series relies on plot contrivances and Dennis Kelly clearly couldn't grasp the extent of the Network. According to season 2, we're supposed to believe the Network gained all its influence in the span of 50 years and was a tightly runned ship with only a handful of members. Series 1 makes it seem more like an ever changing organism with legions of people in its midst who may or may not be ideologically on board with its goals. Characters like the Tramp and Mr Rabbit become less interesting when you see how lacklustre the Network is in season 2.

There were 7 major ice ages and 20 minor ice ages, all more dramatic then any climate change that we recorded post industrial revolution. People are retarded to blindly believe this scam, but that's what educational and media propaganda brainwash does to your average retard. Climate change is real, it's a natural process that happens regardless of humans being on the planet or not. Retards are so invested in the Climate change doomsday cult they will never accept reality.

I'm way less worried about greenhouse gasses and temperature than I am the acidity of our ecosystems increasing. Our microbiology is collapsing because it can't adapt to the rapid changes that industrialization and population growth are bringing. Ideally we hit peak population somewhere in the future and give the ecosystems some time to recover, but until then we have to face the fact that ocean calcification and acid rain will kill off entire sects of the ecosystem, and the only things left will be our factory farms.

I don't know, I saw Mr. Rabbit reveal coming miles away.
Because it was strange how they looked at the papers, and automatically dismissed all women.
If they even took a quick glance at the papers, they would have seen Milner attending the meeting.

To be fair to them she was channeling "literally Anton Chigurh" with her causal treatment of death.
So at the retarded glance of a US writer they might have thought they were actually adding to the character.

But Chigurh is the villain of the story he is in.
Obviously you can make bad or even vile protagonists, but they have to be shitty in a way that is interesting, or at least fun to watch. Gyllenhaal's character in Nightcrawler is a sociopath, but he's fascinating to watch.
The America version of Jessica Hyde is just flatly unpleasant. You almost wonder why the other characters don't just team up with Cusack's organization against her.
