Japanese art/media/culture is very "Japanese" no matter what, while Korea has been way better at packaging their stuff in a way foreigners can get into much easier, even with the language barrier.
And then Japanese people get pissed because Korea is getting more recognition while they keep stagnating.
A great example is the difference between Parasite and Shoplifters.
They're more or less the exact same movie in terms of the characters and how the plot evolves, but one of them only got a little international recognition and the other won an Oscar.
Japan hasn't kept up in the last 25 years.
