i literally did not understand the movie
so the world is infected with a virus that turns people into zombies so they put them in a maze and if they get out they out they might be the cure?

I saw the first movie at my buddy's girlfriend's house like 8 years ago. I was playing chaperone because she still lived with her folks and they were extremely strict on having bf's over (despite being 25). I was laughing hysterically throughout the entire movie, I especially lost it when the cyber-spider showed up, and when everyone in the control room pretended to be dead. Unfortunately my friend and his girlfriend did not think it was that funny and they were legitimately trying to enjoy the movie.

time to build a giant maze to cure cancer
Anonymous
7/4/2025, 1:53:17 AM No.212317449
How come they didn't just use the resources they put into making the maze into making walled off cities like the one in the third movie in the northern and southern most parts of the planet ? Have the military start processing the survivors and then just wait for the infected to slowly die off. Probably way easier and less convoluted than making giant death mazes designed to find a handful of teenagers who can be drained of their blood in order to make a cure for 200 million people spread across the planet.

Might be remembering wrong but the world is getting too hot and they have to build safe environments, and at the same time the heat or uv creates a virus that only affects adults. So they use children to tests cures, and they put them into the mazes to both test their safe environment tech and to stress the kids out because it helps the science. The maze part is hunger games, the survivors are science experiments.

Honestly fuck if I know it doesn't make much sense

The tl;dr is this
>solar flare hites earth
>a couple billion die and the coalition of surviving nations is formed to figure out what to do with the survivors
>they only have enough food for >70% of the survivors and to avoid a collapse they engineer a virus to kill off 30% of survivors
>virus was supposed to painlessly kill off it's victims but instead it mutates and creates zombies by fucking up their brains
>they figure out that children have an immune response which creates an enzyme that targets the virus
>this response is triggered in especially high stress scenarios so the mazes are constructed to create this stress and stimulate the production of the enzyme
>the plan is essentially to find the survivors and drain them of their blood to create a cure.

There's some schlmazel about needing to study the brain's response to stress and trauma, but it's a handwave

It makes slightly more sense in the book, where it turns out that the head of the bad guy science company had long since lost any hope of finding a cure, and so decided that the only solution was to send the immune somewhere far away to restart civilisation. In that context the mazes work as a selection process to weed out the weak and the retarded to give the colony the best chance. But they cut that out of the movies and just have them defeat the bad guys and fuck off to restart civilization by themselves.

It's literally the reverse plot to Resident Evil Revelations 2:

>immunes get their immune shit harvested so the normie elites can stay alive (it's only a treatment though, not a cure)

>Le Fear and Strife makes the immune shit more potent when harvested

Doesn't matter though because in the end the virus mutates and goes airborne and there isn't enough harvested shit to go around

Trips acknowledged.

No I just mean the premise itself. The whole "different factions/houses of teens do the things" is completely played out as a feature in the genre. You gotta have a female lead destroying a patriarchal society with leftist/progressive political elements that are obviously intentionally inserted but are regarded casually by all the protagonists. Because boys aren't really reading anymore.
