I'm trying to watch this documentary but it literally feels like this:

The uncomfortable truth is that Britain lost WW2, despite being on the winning side. Through a mixture of incompetence from Parliament, bad luck and the French getting steamrolled early on, Britain ended the war in crippling debt to America, even more than Germany. That debt was increased further when we relied on American money to rebuild the wreckage of our towns and cities. The fighting across the empire caused large swathes of the Commonwealth to immigrate, which at the time was seen as necessary labour for a country that had it's infrastructure and population crippled.
