You can be good as a critic but suck at writing, directing, etc. And you can be good at directing or whatever and have total pleb taste. They do these for fun because they like the process of film making as a hobby. They tend to critique things alright. At least from what I've seen. The only one I felt they were way off about was Event Horizon.

The biggest problem with Space Cop aside from just not being that funny is that it relies too heavily on referencing B movies the the RLM crew covered so if you haven't watched every episode of Half in the Bag and Best of the Worst then most of the jokes and gags won't make any sense.

Their writing is totally fine. Gorilla Interrupted is genuinely good. For their budget and manpower their film making is completely serviceable. The problem with Space Cop is that it is a poor premise based on B-movie in-jokes that don't add up to a cohesive narrative and just feel like scenes cobbled together from different films with Space Cop stoically walking through them. The only good part of the film was the scene when Space Cop tries to get revenge on his future wife's killer where he drunkenly tries to murder a kid, one of the few scenes where Space Cop is being proactive.
