Damn I love Anderson in general and I don't get triggered by his style as pseuds tend to do, but this one did NOTHING for me beyond the basic aesthetics. The relationship stuff should be the basis of everything as it is in his better movies, but it just seems shallow and unearned in this case.

I think each sink had a different purpose for cleanliness and two toilets is a rich couple thing from a past era.

There's also like 5 different doors that get opened at some point in the scene.

he overdid the cartoonishness at the cost of the emotional impact of its more serious scenes, because the characters barely seem human

That movie is great on an emotional level though (I assume you post it as a positive example of what he failed to do in TPS). He used to make the deadpan bits prop up the genuine bits but it just doesn't work in this case

Still no explanation for the three sinks. Of course I know what the pissing toilet is for. That was just me pretending to be retarded.

a bidet is an ass shower if you didn't know
in the modern age you would just have a quick shower instead, you wouldn't run a bath just to get the shit out of your crack back then

yeah I meant to post a positive example, in The Darjeeling Limited the characters are whacky too but their humanity still shined through to great effect.
I remember a scene in The Phoenician Scheme where the daughter first meets her father, and she completely randomly walks up to a wall until her nose is almost touching it and then she turns before starting a monologue, it all felt super artificial and robotic and a most of the movie is like this. It's almost impossible to see the characters as anything more than lifeless puppets acting out a play, it was a fun watch but it had no emotional impact on me whatsoever despite the fact that some of the father-daughter dynamics are clearly meant to pluck some strings.

>in the modern age you would just have a quick shower instead
why do a full shower if I only have to clean the ass? A bidet is always quicker

maybe if you have one, but you can always hunch over in a shower and avoid getting your upper body wet
i got into the habit of taking a shower after every shit when i lived in a tropical country and now i feel like a superior human being

>but you can always hunch over in a shower and avoid getting your upper body wet
true, I just assumed a scenario in which one has a bidet but still goes for the shower anyway
>when i lived in a tropical country
understandable, from what I've read in hot and humid places like Thailand two showers a day is considered the bare minimum to not be a stinker

just watched it, it was pretty bad

i expect some twist, something, like it being revealed that he was playing everybody from start

but nope, they visit 5 people 1 after another, and the movie ends

i think the point was about him having a religious reawakening, about dying, meeting god, and coming back as a new person, but this is kind lost in all the comedy crap

yeah it seems like the main takeaway is how he goes from a cruel businessmann demanding his daughter to renounce her vocation to being the one swept up into her religiousness and giving up everything for the greater good. As for the thing with uncle Nubar it's about... family feuds and breaking the cycle, maybe? I guess? I can't imagine anybody giving a shit about her character or about the plot twist that he's the nun's biological father
