Honestly, to me, its a red flag if anyone thoroughly enjoys this flick. Not for reasons most of you think though.

The entire premise of this movie is some underdog kid becoming the literal savior of an entire race and brutally killing two seemingly insurmountable forces of oppression (The emperor and harkonnen/sardaukar armies). A movie like this typically resonates with people whom are deep seeded, grade-A narcissists. Everyone I have encountered who likes this movie is a completely self absorbed asswipe that thinks they are superior to everyone they encounter, that they are somehow “different” or “awake”. I don’t quite understand how this hasn’t been flagged as a right wing extremist coded movie, because it certainly is one.

I just like it because I like the idea of being able to slit the throat of anyone who disagrees with me for a second

Anything ridic (fantasy genre) can be enjoyable if the story lays out the nuts and bolts, cosmology, how things work, how ppl get manipulated in a persuasive way. This movie fails at that. It slips the extra steps for money shots.

I do feel I am superior to people who use the term 'flick' to describe film.
Dune is Lawrence of Arabia expanded to include transhumanism alongside the masculine urge to explore new and beautiful frontiers, the transhuman element is the literal frontier in Dune.
The Villeneuve film is not Dune, it's Denis Villeneuve's Dune, which is to say a sloppy attempt to turn Dune into blame whitey for climate change and colonialism.

Baffling to me how people still don't get Dune after 60 years. I know the wacky lingo is a bit of a hurdle at first but the first two books are a fairly light read beyond that.

Don't worry we'll go back to feudalism eventually. Highly unlikely that your progeny will be nobility groomed to father demigods though.

Paul Atriedes is not an underdog. The Atriedes as a whole are. However, Paul Atriedes, Gurney Halleck, Duncan Idaho, Thufir Hawat, etc., are not underdogs. They are on the same level or nearly the same level as the Sardauker are.

Dune, The Matrix and the Gladiator movies are the only things my Dad watches. Over and over again and just these 3.

I like it because I enjoyed the Dune books up to God Emperor and I like to imagine how they would portray paul's fall in the next movie.

You didn't understand what you watched. He is prince to the second most powerful and most loved house. He is a genetically enhanced super human cultivated over tens of thousands of years. He is in no way shape or form an underdog.

i tried watching it and could only last 50 minutes. what the fuck happened to cinema. compare this to the LOTR or even Hobbit trilogy, because i think it's the closest equivalent of our time to those movies. the cast for Dune was absolute dogshit, Paul Atreides looks way too soft and frail to wield any weapon with any efficacy, the white-islander mutt with the weird eyes is a dogshit actor in general, he was put there maybe only to make some holes wet and get them to watch the movie, but when you make decisions like that it's hard to enjoy your movie, way too easy to see through bullshit like that.

most importantly the main fremen bitch was just too ugly, why the fuck are actresses so ugly now, the shots when paul was dreaming and seeing her face with the mysterious music and then this ugly negro bitch showed up almost made me laugh it was genuinely comedic when they were trying to give it some mysterious vibe. i think americans are just stupid and ugly and thats why they can stomach watching it more than non-americans.

the only redeeming quality of the movie is the occasional jaw-dropping visuals and the well-portrayed mysterious and ominous aspects like the bene gesserit, the space guild, the weirdness of harkonnens and their planet.

all in all 4/10

oh and also OP who the fuck flags that as RW-coded. people have been getting so comfortable voicing out their stupid fucking opinions that i can see that happening but there's way too many blacks (including le quirky albino smart nigga) and the fremen werent even racially homogeneous but some kind of mongrels

You don't know what a "premise" is OP.
You just described the plot, they're not the same thing.
The premise is Lawrence of Arabia on acid - IN SPACE!
And the source material is about how paul doing this is something that fucks the human race up so bad it requires his son to turn into an immortal worm that is an abomination unto humanity to implement a convoluted 10,000 year keikaku to unfuck the situation.

Linus Sandgren (LaLaLand, No Time To Die) substitutes Greig Fraser (DUNC, The Batman) as the DOP
so I expect a better look for DUNC3

Children of dune is pretty solid, but the original dune miniseries is just so cheap and bad that i don't really care if its more accurate to the book because I already read the book, and don't necessarily need to see a community theater production of it starring discount stephen dorff.
