When I was a little kid, I thought I was watching a real fight, or at least a dramatization of some historical boxing event. The characters and the writing felt very authentic.

This, Rocky and Adrian are both socially awkward fuckups in their own ways, fumbling their way through life and the whole romance thing together.
>Rocky taking her to a closed skating rink, talking about himself nonstop, bringing up the most non-romantic topics, lives like a slob, etc.
>Adrian lacking any self-esteem, not talking much, living in the shadow of her borderline abusive brother, feeling undeserving of love, etc.
Rocky cornering Adrian one last time here before she walks out isn't rapey in the context of who these characters are.

This is sorta realistic. Concussions and brain trauma build over time. People like Mike Tyson eventually go down to hits from chump fighters that would have never beaten them in their prime. Apollo was just at the end of his run and Rocky hadn't ever really started his. Once Rocky won, Apollo did all he could to help train Rocky to be a real contender. And it's not like they were cake walks

>Apollo fights wearing the American Flag
>enters the ring dressed like George Washington
>goes on about America being the land of opportunity
>Says the big fight will on "america's birthday" (4th of july)
The fight takes a few weeks after thanksgiving. Why did Apollo think thats the 4th of July? Was it a mistake in the script or was Apollo just an idiot ?

Paulie was REALLY concerned about his sister's virginity status. More than scarface was about his sister.

They're both inexperienced when it comes to what to do next, but he would've let her go if she denied him again.
Also, Adrian was meek and insecure, but they both wanted each other. Her being overwhelmed, unsure of how to progress the date, and wanting to retreat back to her old comfortable life in that moment was handled nicely by Rocky despite his own miscues the entire night. He was still yielding to her cues, but wanted to make sure she knew that he loved her and wasn't "teasing her".

All at. Adrienne is obvious starved for love and proper affection, and you can tell Rocky genuinely likes her and wants to be with her, he's just an awkward punchy Guido who's down on his luck. Pauly is a shitbag drunk, and obviously hits his sister.

Rocky's a caring person, he just doesn't know how to express himself, and his dialog reflects it a lot. Adrienne's very soft and mousey, awkward in her own way. Both characters grow and come into their own very much by the beginnings of Rocky 3 when he's World's Heavyweight Champion. They're real people, in a real world, with real emotion. The modern movie goer can't begin to grasp at this or understand it. Everything they view is through the stained lens of polluted social interactions and politics, not genuine emotion or real relationships.

He wanted his sister to get out of the house every so often and have a nice time, and he saw that palooka Rocky as a good option; he's strong, he's smarter than Paulie (but still dumb overall), but they're all they had together, two orphans, and he loved his sister enough that he wanted to protect her innocence, even well into her 20s. But he's also a drunk and a bum living off her earnings.

There was a line about how it got delayed because the original bum got hurt, right? I thought I remembered that.
If not, I think it was just a fight in 1976, which was the bicentennial year

I think they mentioned they couldn’t find a fighter since the boxing match was scheduled for 5 weeks
And Rocky has thanksgiving with Adrian (when Paulie throws the Turkey out the door)
