Garloid sleeves are such a ripoff, you can just cut a hole in the toe of a sock and it won't kill them.

Yes, yes it fucking is.

Audio is 50% of the movie watching experience. A proper home theater set up should be at least 5.2.2 (meaning three front speakers, two rear surrounds, two overhead atmos speakers, and two subwoofers). This is the proper way to experience movies in your home. Also, kudos to the strong cable management work being displayed in this image. I use the same material to bundle my cables.

The set up I just detailed is how I enjoy my movies, games, and music and it is phenomenal. Dialogue is much clearer if you have a proper center speaker. Subwoofers add the low end bass that hits your chest like in a movie theater. Soundbars are for cheapskates who donโ€™t know any better or donโ€™t own their own homes.

TVs donโ€™t provide true 5.1, correct. That is why you buy an A/V receiver that gets the signal from your media device (preferably a 4K Blu Ray player) and then sends an uncompressed signal to your speakers for the proper audio experience.

โ€ฆ.or you can just stream crap from your tvโ€™s apps in shitty lossy/compressed format.

Take the step up to a proper home theater. Your ears and eyes will thank you.

Tons of new and old music is now available in atmos and sounds amazing on an atmos speaker system.

Old films look and sound revelatory on 4k discs. Lawrence of Arabia and the Ten Commandments are glorious. Same goes for anything shot in IMAX by Nolan. The scenes are breathtaking to watch.

Sure, to a reasonable extent. I don't think you need to be completely retarded asshole about it, but if you like movies, music, or video games its well worth spending a least a little bit of money on a decent surround sound setup.

This is correct. You can easily buy a 5.2.2 AVR for $500 and add speakers and subs to it piece by piece as you want. 4K discs will be the last generation of physical media so itโ€™s worth enjoying the format on a decent system.

It is, but it's very rarely done well.
A good score can elevate a mediocre movie into a classic movie. It's hard to qualify how much difference it makes but you have to wonder how many movies would never have achieved classic status without their soundtracks.

>4K discs will be the last generation of physical media
Look I already think 4K is overkill 90% of the time but I've heard this story before. It will be the last disc because the data has to be stored on such a small surface already that tiny smudges can cause a movie to halt entirely, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got some expensive enthusiast-tier 6K or 8K movies on cartridges. They have TB SD cards already. I think the main thing going forward though won't be resolution, but higher bitrate.

Can pirating best quality bluray files and playing them off a home server provide the same audio quality? Apparently everyone was crazy for these bldgd players called Oppo or something because they provided the best audio output for home theater. Is it in the realm of possible to push to a great home theater system from a digital file?
