I like the dialogues and voice acting in this film, at least of the few scenes I occasionally rewatch. They sound natural and soothing. My favorites and those that come to mind are the one in the cafeteria, in the medbay, and Akima's room. I also really like its visual style, Cale and Akima look great and it's one of the most appealing instances of the grimy industrial space aesthetic.

We got a much better animation movie than Titan A.E. just one week later
The bit where they tried to bluff past the smart guard and failed was great. It was one of the first subversions of action movie tropes so it wasn't overdone, and it was a quick one and done moment, they didn't keep trying to do it.
People forget that those moments used to be good because they were rare. Even Joss Whedon used to be fun with those moments before it became ALL that movies were about.

>I want you to risk your life. To give up everything you have to join the mission where you'll face terror and torture and possibly gruesome death
>And I would wanna do that because?
>Because it's worth it. Because the human race needs you. Maybe you haven't had a look around lately, but there aren't many of us left. At this rate they'll be reading about us in textbooks and displaying our bones in alien museums
>Yeah, well, having your planet blown up can have that effect on a species. But maybe I've been wrong all these years and it took your speech to make me see it. You've really changed me. It's beautiful. I think we gotta hug

This movie has no substance whatsoever. It's a nothingburger. All it does is jingle keys in front of your face for 90 minutes.
so many animated films in the 90s/early 2000s people got fatigued
we didn't know how good we had it
we didn't know how much worse it could actually be
>>212355770Anon, you can't name a planet Bob!
I love this movie when it came out and I'm sure it's only become better by comparison thanks to modern shit
>>212346853 (OP)Did the same animators make pic rel? There's something very similar about the style
>>212356266It's really just a mediocre film. There's nothing inherently wrong with it, it's just kinda boring. I think it's the somewhat uninteresting plot combined with slow pacing to both the animations themselves and the editing. It just doesn't grab your attention at all. That and the muted color palate.
>>212346853 (OP)I miss AAA budget 2D animations.

>>212356515I don't agree. I think it's a fun film and trying to do something different than the usual. The usual characters are heroic, the bad guys are on the horizon coming, and you know the good guys will triumph. This one starts with the good guys having already lost and humans being on the bottom. It's an interesting take. The colors are supposed to be drab, brown and depressing. You're meant to feel how sad the humans in that situation are. Still the drej's blues and purples are great and alien. And after all, it's not something aimed at adults but rather teenagers of the time period. Not modern teens that have 1000 more fast paced cgi spectacles and tiktok attention spans
>>212357020Because of YOU fuckin kids that glued your faces to Shrek, we lost out on the "non-princess animated films aimed at boys and teens" era's full potential, it was barely beginning

Anon I know you enjoy the movie and that's fine, but that's a complete headcanon asspull. Don Bluth just hates vibrant colors for some reason, you can look at his entire filmography and it's the same story.
>And after all, it's not something aimed at adults but rather teenagers of the time periodI saw it as the target age demographic when it came out, and even then I thought it was overall kinda dull. I think the problem with Titan AE is that it's an 'old boy' movie, like an 8 to 13 year old boys. That's fine, but it's not efficient.
You can make a "girl movie" and no male of any age will watch it, but 5 year old girls will as well as 23 year old women. So that's a big demographic.
Boys will watch a "kids movie" that is gender neutral, like Toy Story 2 (but which is also watched by girls & young women = huge demographic) but they'll also watch a "dude" movie like End of Days (which is also watched by 23 year old men & girlfriends = huge demographic).
But once a male hits 14 (at the latest) he's not going to be caught dead watching a child-coded movie like a cartoon, and Titan AE is a sci fi with war themes and a visually dark atmosphere so won't be watched by any female age group. It's only demographic was boys old enough to comprehend it and tolerate the violence, but not too old to consider cartoons childish.

The movie has a promising beginning. The first 6 minutes/30 seconds are really good.... and then the movie steadily goes downhill after the 15 years time skip.
>>212377589how would you have changed it? Most of those story beats needed to happen for them to rally the remaining humans, defeat the Drej, and make a new homeworld
The opening is legit good. Why couldn't they keep that level of quality for the rest of the movie? The decline doesn't happen inmediately after the opening, but it does happen eventually.
One of the prime things that sucks about the Drej threat is there's just a singular mothership. But it's usually that way with kid's movies
>You lied. Everything you said? Everything you told me?
>Not everything. Your father hid his ship, then the Drej killed him. All because he couldn't face the truth
