They did not. By sheer accident, they made the Spinosaurus even more potent, more chad then the real dino ever was.
When they made the first Spino's (JW Rebirth), Ingen probably thought that they made a mistake because the Spinosaurs didn't look like what contemporary science 'told' them how they should look like (T-Rex with a sail and long snout). The JW Rebirth Spino's are more accurate but didn't fit the preconceived notion of what the animal should look like and they "fixed" the genetic design and thus, the JP-III Spinosaurus was born.
